How to extract/parse the content of a webhook message attachment?

Hi,

I'm using a webhook to send a message from ServiceNow to MS Teams. The process does not allow me to include a @mention, so I'm using Power Automate to detect the message, extract the details and issue another message with the @mention to alert the person.

My flow is;

When keywords are mentioned > Apply to each > Get message details > Compose

  • I can see in testing the the whole body of the message can be seen in the get message details.
  • I'm trying to extract the text highlighted in red which resides in the "attachments/content/sections" part of the body.
  • I've tried -> body('Parse_JSON')?['attachments/content']
  • I've tried -> outputs('Get_message_details')?['body']?['attachments']?['content']

  • I've tried -> outputs('Get_message_details')?['body/attachments/content']

 "attachments": [
{
"id": "x",
"contentType": "application/vnd.microsoft.teams.card.o365connector",
"contentUrl": null,
"content": "{\r\n \"summary\": \"P1/2 incident next action overdue [OE_NAO_P1-2]\",\r\n \"title\": \"P1/2 incident next action overdue [OE_NAO_P1-2]\",\r\n \"themeColor\": \"ff0000\",\r\n \"sections\": [\r\n {\r\n \"text\": \"Attn: <strong>[name]</strong> ([email]) \\n</br></br>\\nThe next action for case <strong>[case number]</strong> is <span style=\\\"color:red\\\"><strong>over due</strong></span>. The stated action was:\\n</br></br>\\n<span style=\\\"color:blue\\\">This is the next Action for [case number].</span>\",\r\n \"title\": \"\",\r\n \"activityTitle\": \"\",\r\n \"activitySubtitle\": \"\",\r\n \"activityText\": \"\",\r\n \"markdown\": false,\r\n \"startGroup\": false\r\n },\r\n {\r\n \"markdown\": true,\r\n \"startGroup\": false\r\n }\r\n ],\r\n \"potentialAction\": []\r\n}",
"name": null,
"thumbnailUrl": null
}
],

Has someone done this, and how?

regards

Michael

After it I have created two more variables and used split function again.

Sundeep_Malik_15-1662839143118.png

After this again using Apply to each, passing C variable in it. And using condition action with many conditions. [Apply conditions on static values].

Sundeep_Malik_17-1662839228985.png

If Yes condition of above loop:

Sundeep_Malik_18-1662839253262.png

And final output in last compose with variable D.

I hope this helps.

Hey @mkegruber

I was able to extract the data in red. And below is how the final output looks like. Its a pretty complex flow. I will try my best to make you understand.

Sundeep_Malik_0-1662838139966.png

Firstly Took a compose to save your above body.

Sundeep_Malik_1-1662838207086.png

Then I used split function with ','(comma as delimiter). Split is used to convert string to an array. Syntax: split(variable,'delimiter'). Then storing the output of that compose in an array.

Sundeep_Malik_4-1662838428504.png

Initialized a Variable B with type string.

Sundeep_Malik_5-1662838481044.png

Using Apply to each and passing array a in it. And using condition and checking if it contains blue in it or not. Or if blue is dynamic every time, you can add something that will be static all the time.

Basically I am trying to extract:

\r\n \"sections\": [\r\n {\r\n \"text\": \"Attn: <strong>[name]</strong> ([email]) \\n</br></br>\\nThe next action for case <strong>[case number]</strong> is <span style=\\\"color:red\\\"><strong>over due</strong></span>. The stated action was:\\n</br></br>\\n<span style=\\\"color:blue\\\">This is the next Action for [case number].</span>\"

So, whatever is static above you can pass it in the condition.  And after this appending it in the variable B.

Hi @Sundeep_Malik,@mkegruber,

I'm trying to do a similar thing and thought if one of you may be able to assist?

I have got a webhook attachment message coming in through to teams.

I want to use power automate to be able to extract the content and send a voice call and a text message to a user.

I have figured out how to call and send a text message however, due to message being a webhook attachment it is unable to retrieve content in plain text.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you 🙂
