Licensing Question - Service Account & per user plan?

Dear all

 

I'd like to get some clarity on some licensing questions. I've already read the official sheet about the Power Platform licenses, but I honestly still don't get it, respectively still have some questions:

 

  1. For Flow there are two plans. Per user and per flow. It says that per user allows individual users to create unlimited flows based on their unique needs. Am I right assuming that I could basically create a service account running all my "general"-business flows and therefore only need ONE "per user" plan?
  2. When I have a per user plan, I don't automatically have PowerApps premium, right?
  3. I have a flow being started from PowerApps. It creates some REST calls with a service account (it has permissions to some business lists the end user should not have access to). Does the end user need to have a premium-flow license as well in order for this flow to work?
  4. In Flow I see some actions labeled as "premium" (the ones officially from Microsoft...). Does it mean I need to have a per user or per flow plan in order to use them? Or what other condition enables me to use these actions?

I would really appreciate some clarity on this. It's all too confusing 😕

  1. For the first question, yes, as long as you subscribe to per user plan, you will be able to use all the features provided by Microsoft Flow.
  2. For the second question, if you want to use the PowerApps premium feature, you need to subscribe to the PowerApps standalone plan separately.
  3. For the third question, this needs to check whether the Premium connector is included in the Flow. If it is not included, I think the end user does not have to subscribe to the per user plan.
  4. For the fourth question, if the connector is identified as premium, you need to have per user plan / per flow plan to use it. Or you can try the trial version first.

For the 3rd question:

The flow includes premium connectors (the HTTP action). What if the flow being triggered is executed with the service account from question 1?

That leads me to a 5th question: Do users who start a flow from PowerApps always need to have a per user plan if those flows include premium connectors?

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!    This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities. Users must provide a solution which can be an “Accepted Solution” in the Forums in all of the communities and there are no limits to the number of “Accepted Solutions” that a member can provide for entries in this challenge, but each entry must be substantially unique and different.    Winner Selection and Prizes: At the end of each week, we will list the top ten (10) Community users which will consist of: 5 Community Members & 5 Super Users and they will advance to the final drawing. We will post each week in the News & Announcements the top 10 Solution providers.  At the end of the challenge, we will add all of the top 10 weekly names and enter them into a random drawing.  Then we will randomly select ten (10) winners (5 Community Members & 5 Super Users) from among all eligible entrants received across all weekly Entry Periods to receive the prize listed below.
