I want to update a column in my list but i am getting this error: One or more fields provided is of type 'null' a different type is expected. power.

mul(items('Apply_to_each')?['ApBudget'],1.5)

Hi. Unfortunately, I am guessing that you are saying the mul() expression the error, because I do not see an error, nor do you say which is causing the error.

What I can say is that you are using the multiplication expression, and that with 100% assurance, the value 

items('Apply_to_each')?['ApBudget']

must be NULL in some cases, hence the error.

Do something like this,

if(equals(items('Apply_to_each')?['ApBudget'],null), 0, mul(items('Apply_to_each')?['ApBudget'],1.5))

This will check if the value is null and put a 0 (for ApBudget), if not it will do the multiplication expression you want.

This will make the error go away.

The multiplication is not working and it turns column that already has value to Zero.

I think this occurs due to column you have passed in expression items('Apply_to_each')?['ApBudget'] is not present. Check whether ApBudget column is present in your sharepoint list or not?

Do one thing, check the dynamic content variable corresponding to ApBudget check its json structure hovering over it, You could see simmilar to items('Apply_to_each')?['ApBudget'] expression, check what's there for ApBudget value ?

It has Value 0

So you have 2 bugs, one which is you had NULL originally, which my solution fixed so should be marked as the answer.

The second problem is you also have it as 0, so you get a separate error.

So do this

if(or(equals(items('Apply_to_each')?['ApBudget'],null), equals(items('Apply_to_each')?['ApBudget'],0)),0, mul(items('Apply_to_each')?['ApBudget'],1.5))

Now if your value is 0 or NULL its going to put 0, if the value is not zero its not going to put 0.

ApBudget column still turns to 0 even when it contains value

Hi @codeworks 

What i was taking is this :

if you have field named as Status , then its json structure would be like below

like items('Apply_to_each')?['Status'] , here Status would be name by which it is referenced within power automate to get the required column, sometimes it would be different, so you have to check like that and see what is name is used to refer that column, by that this may help to resolve things !
