Passing variables to a child flow

Hi Guys,

I've created a manually triggered flow and have several inputs, I was expecting to be able to use these input fields as dynamic content later in the flow but they aren't available. Am I doing something wrong?

See the below image, I am trying to use the input fields for the manually triggered flow to filter a share point list on the next step.

Well don't I feel stupid. The dynamic content box was out-with the edge of my screen and I couldn't see the vertical scroll bar. I zoomed to 90% and all is good again.

I was so embarrassed that I almost never posted this reply, but hopefully it helps someone else.

Hey @JimJim I assume the screenshot is from the Child Flow - If yes, add a "Compose action" and see if the variables are getting populated.

Hi @CFernandes , I added a compose action and the variables are still not showing in dynamic content

@JimJim

In the Main Flow you have the -Run a Child Flow action.

When I create the parent flow and call the child flow, I can see the child flow fields

Hey @JimJim,

Technically it should work - all the field in your screenshot are mandatory - please hardcode then (for test) and see if you get the values in child flow.

Hey @CFernandes , I hard coded the values and can confirm that the values were passed to child flow, the only issue is that it returned all items from my sharepoint list as I haven't applied the filter. I have checked again but the input fields are still not available later in the child flow dynamic content. I am really stuck

@JimJim Really strange - No errors as well - Perhaps try to Manage Run Only permissions.

Hi again @CFernandes , just wanted to run one more thing past you. I can see some dynamic content, just not my input fields. This is what I can see

Hello,

The idea is to pass variables to a child flow.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/create-child-flows

---

In your image what values are you inserting (Business Unit, Area, Approval Level, Approval Sub Level) to create the child flow? I mean, your flow has no variables- What are you sending there?

brricard_1-1620647039798.png

---

Check my example:

Parent Flow:

Notice you I pass the variables ContactName and ContactEmail (defined in the child flow) as you have done.

brricard_2-1620647275734.png

Child:

The variables here were requested in the ("Run a Child Flow").

brricard_3-1620647305419.png

Test:

As you can see, after running the parent flow, the child flow is triggered. The values coming from the parent flow are "populated" in this variables ContactName and ContactEmail.

And I can use them in the rest of the flow. The dynamic reference is coming from the child trigger but the value was imported from the Parent.

Thank you,

BR

@JimJim I am glad that your problem is resolved. I myself was puzzled as we checked everything and it looked correct.
