Power Automate Flow with dynamic table name- how to get the column name for a condition?

Hi,

I'm working on creating a PA flow that updates one column in MS List based on the daily excel report shared via email.

I've created 2 flows for this purpose and first one is already working:

1. When email arrives it's automatically saved on Sharepoint

2. Data in excel is automatically formatted as table

However, I'm struggling with the second one that should be executed after the previous one:

1. Get Items from MS List (works)

2. Get tables from the after it's created in the first flow (works)

3. List rows from the table (works) // I used dynamic table name because everyday I get new excel file and it overwrites the existing one and new table is created, even though the table has always the same name it has different ID

Now the issue is that I want to create a condition that compares values in excel table in column "Ticket Number" with the same column in MS List.

However, due to dynamic table name used in the previous steps I cannot find column name in the dynamic values list.

Is there anyway to get that specific column name and put in condition with expression? (or any other ways to do that?)

Thank you in advance

Hi @Bartek97 ,

Do you want something like that? Compare two tables where the values of a column are equal. Generally, you can get the dynamic content about the columns directly in the condition. so, can you provide some screenshots about your problem?

If you can't get it at an action, this may require some expression, I'm assuming your current action is inside 'apply to each', then you can try this expression.

items('Apply_to_each')?['ColumnName']

Hi,

Thank you very much for the reply, it pointed me into the right direction. What I also had to do was to enter a table name in "List rows present in the table" action manually instead of picking it up from the drop down list.

My file is recreated in sharepoint everyday (another flow is saving email attachment and overwriting the previous one) which resulted in differen table ID everyday even though the name is always the same. List rows action is in fact looking by ID not the name.

As a workaround I just inputted the table name manually which forced PA to use the actual table name instead if ID.

Best regards

I have a similar case to develop, but I am getting Bad Gateway error in "List table rows" action. Could you please help me here with a screen shot of List table rows action, I searched a lot but couldn't find the reason of error still.

Hi @Bartek97 ,

Do you mean that the table field is dynamic?

vmengmlimsft_2-1699947878721.png

You can of course enter dynamic values, but the value must be the table id, I do not know whether your current flow can get the table information, for example, you can get the table id directly in the dynamic content, another situation is that your flow only about the name of the table and so on, which means that you need to list all the tables, and then according to the name of the table to filter the output value, to get the corresponding table id.

Example for how to get table id with table name.

vmengmlimsft_0-1699947835318.png

vmengmlimsft_3-1699948459271.png

item()?['name']
body('Filter_array')[0]?['id']

Best regards,

Rimmon

Hi Rimmon,

Yes, I could choose dynamic table name/id. However, by doing so I was unable to get column names later in the flow because PA didn't know the columns names because reference was dynamic.

What I had to do was to manually input table name (it forced PA to actually look for table name unstead of ID whcih is different everyday when the file is recreated on SP).

Best regards
