Retrieving Box.com Folder ID

I have a flow that creates a new file in Box.com. The pathway is dynamic based on variables in the flow. After the file is created, I would like to retrieve the unique Folder ID for the specific folder that the file was saved in. It doesn't appear that there is a method to retrieve the Folder ID directly for a file saved in Box.com in Power Automate. Is anyone familiar with any workarounds to retrieve this value?

Hi Scameron,

I don't know what method you use to create your file but you should have this information in the response outputs. 

Check out this: Get file information - API Reference - Box Developer Documentation

Using this method you've got the needed info. If the create file response do not give it, call this one with file ID you will surely have in the create file response.

I used the Create File action in Power Automate. It shows the following information. I don't see Folder ID in that data. I don't see a Get File action in Power Automate. There is a Get file metadata using id action but it also doesn't return the Folder ID.

Ok, fine, so you've got the file ID, with this you can call the get file information method.

ex with your file ID: https://api.box.com/2.0/files/1284164121477

You'll then get parent folder information available.

I apologize for my ignorance on this issue. I am not a developer and am unfamiliar with the Box.com API. Is there a way to call the Get File Information method from Power Automate? I didn't see a Get File action in Power Automate for Box. Digging around, I saw I may be able to use the HTTP action but when I try that I am getting authentication errors.

Hi,

You can call any API using HTTP action, I don't know Box.com, what I provided came from their API doc. If you enconter an authentification error that's because for any API call you have to authenticate first. There must be an authentication method in their APIs.
