Trigger Flow when Documents are added in SubFolders of Document Library

I am building a Flow where I would like to copy my files from SharePoint library to Blob Storage. I am able to do it (trigger flow) when files are added directly in the library. But My SharePoint library has multiple subfolders, and I would like the flow to trigger whenever there is a file is added in any of the sub folder in the library. Is it possible??

Hello @Anonymous ,

This is a known limitation with PowerAutomate and Sharepoint. There is no direct way you can trigger workflow for folder and sub folders. Only possible way is to write multiple flows for each sub folders you are having . 

If you need this feature to be added, please vote this idea.

This can be accomplished by a Trigger Condition that effectively counts the number of subfolders of a file/folder in the Library.  By splitting on a file path delimiter, you can exclude the root folder by checking for more than 2 parts.  This condition can be used to trigger only on the contents of subfolders:

@greater(length(split(triggerBody()?['{Path}'],'/')),2)

Note, the split function returns two parts for a root folder that has a trailing slash.  For example, 'split("RootLibrary/", "/")' returns ["RootLibrary", ""].

Unfortunately no. I see the only workaround - creating a scheduled flow that will run periodically and scan all folders.

The triggers listed here do not trigger for subfolder modification or create without specifying the subfolder. 

I extensively tested this as of 9/19/23 without success using only the root. 

Microsoft states (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/connectors/azureblob/#known-issues-and-limitations) 

1. The trigger does not fire if a file is added/updated in a subfolder. If it is required to trigger on subfolders, multiple triggers should be created.

This is misleading since multiple triggers are not supported within a single workflow - therefore, it is more acurate that multiple workflows must somehow be created to achieve this... 

My current use case requires that Power Automate recognize creation in or modifications to data within subfolders: 

• Azure Cost Management Exports to Azure Blob Storage
• Azure exports automatically create subfolders for each monthly billing period within a container
• Therefore, to use a PA Connector for either SharePoint or Snowflake movement - subfolders must be recognized.

I've tested it successfully with Trigger

When a file is created (properties only)

I added a trailing slash(/) in the Folder Input and the created file in the subfolder triggered the flow.

Paul this is brilliant! And easy!  Do you know if/how the specific subfolder name can be included in the message action? 

Ah Ha!  Follow up - I can't find a way to display the subfolder where the file was added but adding the path as Dynamic Content works just as well. And the message displays as "Workflows" in my Teams Chat.  Nifty!
