Unable find proper trigger for issue

Hello Everyone,

I have Excel file which contains dates, based on dates I am supposed to do a particular action like sending an email. I was able to achieve this using scheduled flow trigger. I have scheduled it to run every minute. However when there are more entries with same date flow is not working as date mismatches after a minute. I am trying for an alternative trigger. Kindly suggest.

Here the Excel file will be updated frequently so I have to check everytime it's updated.

Appreciate your suggestions.

Thank you.

Hi,

Where is your file located ? Onedrive, SharePoint, elsewhere ?

For example, if your file is in a SharePoint document library, you should use "When a file is created or modified" trigger, your flow will be triggered only when file is created or modified.

when you meant date mismatches after a minute does your date in excel has time also. if possible can you share the date format you have in Excel.

How is the Excel file getting updated with these dates? Are people manually putting in dates into this workbook?

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion.

File is located in SharePoint; I tried this option but unable to get table from the file using file identifier. I think I have to use list rows in table itself.

but the challenge here is, sometimes we may modify file only once with 30+ entries. Once flow is triggered for all the 30+ entries flow tries to compare time with current time if it matches it will try to send mail, if not flow has to trigger again to repeat the action. I am unable to find a way to retrigger the flow.

Hope I am clear.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

Yes Excel file contains date and format is dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm.

Here format might not be the issue as it will be successful for the first instance.

Let me give you example for my challenge.

say for example I have 100 entries out which 60 entries are with same date (11-08-2023 07:56) and at that my flow triggers checks if time matches for 1st entry as it matches it will send mail, but it will not go to second entry immediately as flow also contains delay to make flow to do another action after around 60 mins based on some requirement.

so we scheduled flow to run every 1 min, it will trigger 2nd time at 11-08-2023 07:57 but when it compares with remaining entries time mismatches as time in the entries is 11-08-2023 07:56.

Hope I am clear, I am unable to share flow here due to some restrictions.

Thanks you

Hi, thanks for the response.

all the entries will be manually copied from another excel file as a bulk like 30-50 entries/rows at once.

This process doesn't make sense.

This manual copy and paste and schedule flow every minute to match times is a poor plan.

What are you trying to accomplish overall? Where do these datetime rows come from? What are you doing in 60 minutes?

Is the minute precision a requirement? Can you just compare to the hour?

Hi,

Excel file contains list of tasks with start and end time. So I have to send one email at the beginning of the task and in between have to post messages in teams to know the progress and based on end time I have to send one more email.

Frequency of message posting depends on duration of task, like if task end time is with in a day I have to keep posting messages every one hour to know progress. so to do all this, flow once triggered has to wait till end time as per my flow. (As only option I know with limited knowledge )

Comparing minutes also required as some tasks may also start at 12:30 or 12:45 kind of.

Hope I have provided sufficient info.

Thanks for the response 🙂
