Unable to delete all items in all folders SharePoint

Hi everyone,

I'm going bonkers with this flow and I'm hoping someone can help please!

I'm trying to delete files that are older than 7 days in hundreds of folders inside a SharePoint list folder.

If I enter a folder path in the 'Limit Entries to Folder' then it works, but what I want to do is to add the top level folder and then loop inside each folder underneath that.

It says 'ActionFailed. An action failed. No dependent actions succeeded.' for each of the folder names?

Please help! Thank you 🙂

When you "Limit Entries to Folder", by default it should include the subfolders -- but you can also force it, using "Yes" for "Include Nested Items".

You're then saying that you want to loop through the files to identify if they're older than 7 days, right? So you'll do a Filter Array on the Created (making sure to FormatDateTime on both sides of the filter), then Parse JSON on the output to get the dynamic content, then you'll do a "Delete File" on the ID from that.

Do you want to delete the sub folders as well, or only the content in the subfolders?

Hi Rhiasurring,

Thanks for the reply!

Here's some screen shots of my flow.

I get an error for each folder. The flow says they don't exist!

ps, I only want to delete the contents in each folder, not the actual folders

Hi @kchinnock ,
I am having the same problem like you with the "Get files (property only)":
Although I can select the folder just fine using the UI, when the action is executing, I am receiving this error:

"body": {
"status": 404,
"message": "Folder Not Found\r\nclientRequestId: xxxx\nserviceRequestId: xxxx"
}

Looks like a bug to me.
Unfortunately, I cannot find the space where we can report such bugs/issues.
@Rhiassuring : As a Super User: Do you know where we can report bugs?

Not sure about the error, let's see what I run into...

Here's my folder:

Rhiassuring_0-1700344297574.png

And some subfolders, all with content, at the root and in the subs:

Goal: Delete everything within the /Breakfast path, without deleting the subfolders, but also deleting everything in the subfolders.

The big change I'm making here is to exclude folders. Since folders aren't files, it's erroring. I looked it up, and it seems to be By Design and not a bug. Poor wording around it, though.

Note that I have "Include Nested Items" (Yes), and a Filter Query of ContentType ne 'Folder'.

Then, the "Delete File" on the Identifier output from that.

Now let's run it...

....Yep, that worked.

thank you so much for taking the time to assist!

Would I be able to use the ContentType ne 'Folder' as well as my created le query?

At the moment I have

Created le'@{formatDateTime(body('Get_past_time'),'yyy-MM-dd')}' AND ContentType ne 'Folder'

But this errors 😞

Scrap the above.... it's 'sort of' working now, but something weird is happening....

I run it, and it deletes all of the oldest files in each folder BUT.... only from the oldest date of the files?! For example, someone scanned 20 documents on 10th October, and it's deleted all of those, which is great, but it's left all of the documents from 11th October onwards..... if I then run the flow again manually, it deletes the scans from 11th October...... and so on for each day?! Confused!

Is my syntax wrong for the date?

Thanks so much to those taking the time to assist 🙂
