Underscores disappear from link

Hi all,

 

In a flow I have a section that waits for an approval of a certain person. Waiting for this approval, the flow sends an email to someone that contains a button. When the person clicks this button, it opens a link to a certain file that was collected from a certain folder in SharePoint. It has worked thousands of times already.

Now the problem is that suddenly the link to the item changes. It deletes certain underscores from the link, resulting into a 'page not found'.

 

Example: 

file in folder: sharepoint.com/sites/invoices/15154_4_file.pdf 

Flow picks this link up under the variable 'Link to item' which should be exactly the same. But when the person clicks the button however, he gets redirected to the next link where the underscores just dissapear:

sharepoint.com/sites/invoices/151544file.pdf 

 

I have made several test and everything keeps working fine. I can't reproduce this problem. However, still a few users experience this issue.

 

I tried using a static link with the file name as well, but still works fine:

Someone has any clue how this could be, or how I could reproduce the problem? Or is this maybe because of Microsoft Flow itself and I cannot do anything about it (else than sending in a ticket)?

Hi @SkiDK 

 

For cases in which it has failed, check the Flow run to see how the file url is being intepreted

That might give you more insight into the error reason

This issue could be reproduced by me.

 

It seems that the underscores within the file name will be removed on Outlook Client, however, it works fine on Outlook Web.

Could you please provide your Outlook desktop version?

We should make sure that the Outlook version you are using is fixed on the latest version of the client.

Currenlty I'm running version 1808 (Build 10730.20264). I'll update to the targeted version and see if the issue is fixed or not.

What is the current situation on your side?

I have received a reply from PG. Be told that this is just a cosmetic issue with outlook web and outlook team is being looked at. Functionality is not affected.

Still nothing works. Working with the latest version of outlook now. I tried different things but all the same result. Even when I statically write something with an underscore in the Flow, it will get deleted in the template mail. So I do suppose as you said it has to do with the web client.

Any update? Link to item is effective. I have tested it on my side. There is currently no way to reproduce a similar issue.

Now the Approval action has been integrated, currently only Start and wait for an approval.

Please use it to do some further tests. If you have any questions, please let us know.

I've put in a ticket to Microsoft and they could reproduce the issue on their side. They could not do anything about this because this is by design for Outlook.

 

The issue arises only on generating the template approval layout in the email. In the original message everything shows fine. So Flow works perfectly luckily.

 

I really don't understand why this is 'by design' for Outlook. Anyway, I'm going to remove the Start and Wait for an approval from the Flow.

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!    This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.
