Verify if Folder exists and create folder Dynamically and move files

Hello everyone,

I am trying to move files from one library to another library if a file is older than 2 years. The issue is that I would like to maintain same folder structure between both the libraries.

Let's say Library 1: This is my main library which will have several files and folder.

Library 2:  This is my destination library.

I want to move a file if it is older than 2years from Library1 to Library2, but it has to check if that folder exists at destination or not. If it doesn't exists then it has to create new folder and then copy that file there.

Note: If there needs to be a sub folder, then it has to create that subfolder.

Overall, it needs to create folder dynamically whether it is an root folder or sub folder or several layers of folder.

Is this achievable? I am kind of stuck at this step of not able to match folder path.

Hi @rajkumar88

No worries. I made a mistake in my last post. The "Full Path" contains the file. So it's creating a folder with the name of the file and the file inside it. It would be best if you used the "Path" instead. Sorry about that.

In the "File Name" you have the "Name" but this doesn't contain the extension. It would be best if you used the "File Name With Extension".

Can you please check if and let me know if you have any questions?

Hi @rajkumar88

If you create a file using the same path, the folders will be created if they don't exist.

So you do a "create file" with the same folder path as in Library 1 in Library 2.

Can you please check if and let me know if you have any questions?

@manuelstgomes ,

Thanks for your reply. I am getting error while retrieving file content. Also I am using below condition to check if modified date is older than 1 day.

Condition:

formatDateTime(item()['Modified'],'yyyy-MM-dd')   "is less than"
addDays(utcNow(),-1,'yyyy-MM-dd')

Error: Get-File content:

{
  "status"404,
  "message""File not found\r\nclientRequestId: c5e48dc5-a94a-4e71-a106-71c646b373ac\r\nserviceRequestId: c5e48dc5-a94a-4e71-a106-71c646b373ac"
}

Hi @rajkumar88

The issue is not on the "Condition". The issue is the next step where you get the file. It's not finding it to copy to the other side. Can you please check if the path or id are correct?

@manuelstgomes , There are several files that are older than 1 day under that Library 1. and what I am trying to do is to loop through entire library and find a file which is older than 1 day and then get file content to create it at destination library. Under "Get File content" I am using ID from "Get file properties". It failed.

And I used ID as "Current Item" from apply to each and it failed

Hi @rajkumar88

I made a test Flow to emulate your issue. I'm not checking for a date because your formula is correct. I would add though the validation if it's a folder or not. I think you only want to move files.

Please use the "Identifier" from the "Get files (properties only)". The Identifier is the full path encoded, and it will work, as you can see below.

@manuelstgomes , Thanks a lot for testing it.

But when we use "Create file" Do we need to use Folder path as destination library and then FileName as name of the file or full folder path so that it can create missing folders at destination?

Hi @rajkumar88

If you want to keep the structure, you should put in the "Folder Path" the same as in the Library1. You can find this in the "Full Path" property.

@manuelstgomes ,

Sorry for asking too many questions. Bit new to PowerAutomate.

if I use below parameters, it is creating folder for each file and then adding file underneath that. And the file is creating with wrong extension. Below two folders are actual files. Only "100th anniversary" is a folder.

Success. I used library name with FolderPath combination under " Folderpath" property.

But the other issue I see is that is there is a folder under a folder, when Get-file content run, it's throwing an error because there is no file and only additional folder is there. If there is no file and there is subfolder, then can we not just ignore the error rather than throwing that exception?
