When approving in outlook desktop approver redirects in MS Flow browser

Hi.

We've encountered some approvers who cannot submit approval response thru Outlook Desktop.

When user click approve / reject, it will re-direct to Power Automate site.

Please advise how to resolve this?  Thanks

Hi @jaina

I would believe so. The approval process is an special "email" that is parsed by Outlook. If it's a new version it will "understand" that is an approval and you'll be able to do it within your mailbox. Older versions of outlook will deal with it as a link and that's why you're redirected to Power Automate.

I'm not sure about the versions but 2013 looks old enough that this might be the issue.

Cheers
Manuel

Hi

Was this working before or never worked?
It could be an old version of outlook. You can even do this in Microsoft Teams, so I'm finding it strange that it's opening the website.

Hi @manuelstgomes , thanks for responding!

Actually,  it is working well to most of the approvers, but for some with Outlook 2013 encountered this.

Does this mean that the approval within email using MS flow of Power Automate is based on the user's Outlook license/version?

Hey @jaina

Please have a look at  - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/issues-with-flow-approval-emails-in-outlook-desktop-and-we...

From the article -

For users that are not on the required version of Outlook, or are using another mail client like Mail.app for iOS/Mac OS X, etc., users will receive an HTML email with links to take the user to the Flow portal to respond to approvals.

I do have newer version of the outlook but still I cannot approve from email and also I am missing the optional comment section in that approval email. This started happening recently.

I'm seeing the same issue after updating to the latest version of Office today.  It was working properly prior to this (my previous version was from April 2021). It still works properly when using Outlook web/PWA.  Why on earth would MS change this functionality??

Does anyone have an update to this? I am using the latest version of Outlook, fully updated, but still approvals button redirects to the browser. Previously using this same form/flow I could approve direct from Outlook. Don't know what has changed?

This issue hits selected users of my company as well. They occasionally receive single approval messages in a slightly changed style with the main difference that all action buttons are pointing to the Power platform's Approvals page. This applies to the same Flows that are sending the correct messages most of the times. Current tool version is Outlook Desktop v2208. Would be good to have an explanation for that confusing behaviour...

Same issue here! However, I am facing it via Outlook online (from the browser), and it redirects to PA. Did anyone raise a ticket to Microsoft regarding this?

I am seeing this on occasion during my testing of pa approvals. But I can then click away from the email, then go back to it and then it renders properly..... I cant figure out any consistency as to why it happens. Using the latest outlook.

This is super frustrating, without a consistent experience we cant roll this out at scale
