image from sharepoint list - send as email attachment

I have a sharepoint list, where one of the column stores images.

Every time a new entry is added to the list, I want a flow to run and to send an email containing the image as attachment

 

The flow runs ok, and the email is sent. However, the image cannot be opened.

 

Clearly, something was wrong in the way I designed the flow.

My first observation: When I use the Dynamic content menu, usually all columns from the sharepoint list appear with their names.  With one exception: the column whose type is Image (in fact, when I create the column, I pick Image type; later, when viewing the list properties, the column type appears as Thumbnail). So I pick the Thumbnail tag from the Dynamic Content menu, hoping that it would refer to the image column for the current row. Please confirm whether this supposition is correct. 

Next, I encode the image using this recipe that I have found on several different tutorials.

Finally, I  attach the image variable as an attachment to the email; I also embed the image variable in the email body. 

In either case, the image cannot be opened.

I know this article, I came across it while trying to solve this problem. However, I was not able to implement this solution. 

In any case, the article does confirm my supposition : "SharePoint Image column is internally typed as Thumbnail"

As a colleague suggested, I followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy1z7cZ5Dac 

I had to make some minor adjustments in order to make it work:

1. when creating a form in Power Apps, the Attachments field (data card) was something that I deleted by default; now I brought it back

2. in the Sharepoint List, I made visible the pre-defined Attachments column. This is where the data from the Attachments field in Power Apps goes after submitting the form. 

While an image can potentially go in any column in the Sharepoint List, when later processing that image in Power Automate, that image would require encoding. And that was a headache. This pre-defined Attachments column in the List (that matches with the Attachments form field) seems to be the only one that later permits a decent manipulation of its content in a Power Automate flow. 

Next, I just followed the steps in the video tutorial. 

I also had some trouble, as the tutorial showed how to attach exclusively the image attachments.  I had some Word files generated at previous steps, that also needed to be attached to the email.  Luckily, I got an answer here: https://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/308960/flow-that-sends-email-concatenate-existing-att...
