link to item go to edit form

Hi All,

I always add a link to the item in the bottom of all email alerts.  This works great, but I have a need to have the link open the Edit form to avoid clicking the edit button on top (users 😞 !!)

is this possible?  Without major programming...

TIA,

Joe

Here is one i have which notifies if the start date was changed after the fact.

Im basically checking anytime a change was made to an item, if the field i care about was changed. Then notify via Jira.

Pick the column you want to know true or false if it changed

Resulting in this output

And regarding the link. Unless you changed settings, whoever clicks the link should be able to edit by clicking in fields they want to edit. As mentioned previously permissions/views in sharepoint can be used to control which columns they see/can edit.

Can you please provide more details about what you are providing a link to? Is it a Sharepoint List? Can you please provide clarification on the difference between link open and edit form?

Sorry,

This is a link to a SharePoint item.

Yes, thats the link you are including in the emails for the user to click on.

But what do you mean by this?
"but I have a need to have the link open the Edit form to avoid clicking the edit button on top"

For example, when my users open the link i include in our emails, it opens a view looking like this by default:

briant_0-1666873684957.png

And if they click on any field they can edit the information, and if they click outside that specific list item field, it auto saves.

I also have versioning turned on so i can easily see what users changed what. Which unfortunately cant be done from the same view, but instead you need to search for the versioning history.

Thank you @briant,

I wish there was a way for the alerts to highlight what was changed, but I know that is not possible.  I hate the fact that I have to click on view the version history to see what column out of the 40 columns in the item was changed.  FLOW should highlight what was changed and show both old and new values.

My question here is to have the "link to item" open the edit form of list item, so the user can simply start editing what they need in the list without clicking on the edit button to update/add to the list item.

Thanks Again,

Joe

Regarding your first point, you can build flows to only trigger or display true/false if a change was made in that field since last version.

Would something as simple as changing the default view for the group of users to only show the columns they need to update? So for us, we have a default view for IT and a default view for HR for our onboarding/offboarding. So we only display fields necessary to each department. They both can click the same link, but get different views.

I would like to be able to create FLOWS as you described above.  Do you have any samples I can look at?  I have never been able to find anything to do what you suggested, and that will make my users very happy! 🙂

As far as my question in the thread, I will make them click the edit button after the link brings them to the item in the alert, unless the "link to item" can be modified.
