CDS Migration from Trial to Production Environment Question - Power BI

Hey All,

Trying to understand what kind of rework needs to be done to move a Canvas application and its custom CDS entities and CDS data into a production environment.

Would greatly appreciate feedback from users who have gone through this process:

Application

My understanding is that importing the App over is relatively easy with packaging.

CDS Customizations (Custom Entities)

I believe that I would need to export the Common Data Services Default Solution sitting in the current trial environment. From there I need to import the zip into the new production environment. is that correct?

CDS Data

I'm confused why that article above doesn't cover the data piece. I would think though that one way I can do this is download the CDS Custom Entity Data in Excel, entity by entity or learn to use the Data Integrator. What's the time effort to do the latter? I have about 4-5 custom entities in my CDS.

This link also isn't super in-depth in my opinion which is why I'm hesitant with Data Integrator method...

Power BI

I know this is a PowerApps forum but what kind of rework would I need to do, now that the data source has changed since the environment has changed? I have current visuals pulling from the trial environment CDS data. Would I need to click and drag the data fields in my visuals again after reconnecting to the production environment? (Basically redo the Power BI visuals)

Just to clarify that I'm seeking to convert a trial environment to a production environment.

This article does not mention if everything (CDS Data and customizations) can be moved if the storage capacity is enough. If so then my top post is not as relevant, but it would be helpful if this article explicitly said what it would do.

Do you want to migrate CDS Entity (including data) and canvas app from your Trial Environment to your Production Environment?

Based on the needs that you mentioned, I think the Solution could achieve your needs. Within your Trial Environment, you could consider add a custom solution, then add your CDS Entity and canvas app into this solution, then export this solution into a zip file. After that, import this zip file into your Production Environment.

When you add your existing CDS Entity into this solution, please enable the "Include all components" option as below:

For your Power BI Visual question, if you migrate the CDS Entity data source from your Trial Environment into your Production Environment, and you want your Power BI Visual to connect to Entity data source in your Production Environment, you need to edit your Power BI report, and re-create a connection to CDS Entity data source within your Production Environment, then connect your Power BI visual to this new added data source.
