Here comes a beginner's question (at least I think so): I want to edit the data of a Dynamics 365 table with Excel (this may not be best-practice, but it is a very good solution for my use case). To do this, I export the Dataverse table in PowerApps as an Excel file. I can read and edit the data in the Excel file using the PowerApps Office Add-In. So far, so good.
But now I don't want to display all the columns of the Dataverse table in Excel, only the columns with relevant data. Is it possible to "clone" a table in Dataverse and filter columns (for example). In short I need something similar to a view on an SQL server?
Or is there another solution to my problem?
Thank you for your help.
PS: Filtering the columns in Ecxel is no solution, filtering has to be done in advance.
You can edit the used view - just modify visible columns and apply filters. If you export data then, your Excel file will only contain the records fitting your filter criteria.
Hi @Udo_S
You can achieve this by creating a custom view wherein you choose the appropriate criteria that will filter the records of that table , and you can choose which columns to be displayed/arranged in that view. Once you're happy with the results shown in the view, you can export it in excel to edit.
I hope this information helps.
Hallo @gulshankhurana and @SteRe ,
Thanks for your replies but I'm still lost. I don't see any options to create a view from a table (which is basically what I am looking for).
Is there perhaps a tutorial that shows how to do this (unfortunately I couldn't find one that helped me)?
Hi @Udo_S ,
there are tons of explanations online how to use custom views in D365/MDA. I think this might be a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SEtK6cTcEo
@lisacrosbie is a great teacher and has a very nice style to explain.
@Udo_S
In Power App Studio you can go into the table to edit it, add columns/views/forms etc, set up a new view or edit an existing.
Then you can just export the view as an excel-file (or edit it directly in Excel Online without the need to reupload) directly from Dynamics or any Model-driven app that have access to that view.
Hope that helps!

Thank you very much for your help. After reviewing your suggestions I have come to the conclusion that there is no solution to my problem, at least not an easy one. The tutorial video from Lisa Crosby is great and I found it too during my research, but unfortunately it doesn't help.
I've attached two screenshots to illustrate the problem. They're in German, but I've included the English translation.
The first screenshot shows how I can export an Excel file from PowerApps so that the connection to the PowerApps Office Ad-In works (as shown in the second screenshot on the right site). This connection is the important part because it allows to publish the edited data directly from Excel to the Dataverse without having to import the Excel file again.
This simply doesn't work with views. For views the "Edit data in Excel" option (as shown in the first screenshot) is missing. And when I download a view from Dynamics to Excel as suggested by @Devvj , the resulting Excel file has no connection to the Power Apps Office Add-In . Although I often use this method to export data to Excel, edit the data in Excel and import it back into Dynamics, this is not what I want to achieve. As mentioned, the important part is the connection to the Office Add-In, and this does not work for views.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
