Hierarchy Config of Custom Entity: "Entity is not configured for Hierarchy settings. Please contact your system administrator."

Good day

I have created a self-referenced custom entity called "Component". This was done in a Sandbox environment called "EI"

When, in the app, I click on the Hierarchy icon I get the below error.

"Entity is not configured for Hierarchy settings. Please contact your system administrator."

See Capture.png.

The hierarchy is displayed but obviously when I click the message away the hierarchy form is removed.

Interestingly, when doing the same in the iPhone app, the hierarchy remains. 🤔

My research indicated that I need to enable Hierarchy security in my environment.

see HS.png.

What concerns me here is that I can exclude my "Component" entity from this but not add it? Presumably, it is included by default.

I am new to PowerApps.

I would appreciate any guidance from the community.

Regards

Carl

Hi @mbkConsulting,

Have you configured the hierarchy settings? And if so, can you share the screenshot? To configure, open you solution in Maker Portal then click on "Switch to classic" button in the top menu, then expand your entity and select Hierarchy Settings:

Make sure you pick the default form and the relationship if not already set.

Ensure that the selected form is also part of the model-driven app. Save all and don't forget to publish all 🙂

Hope this helps!

@Anonymous, did that resolve your issue?

Hi @Anonymous, seems like there were issues uploading your images. Possible to re-upload to get a better understanding of your issue?

Hi Eric

Not sure what happended.  I have managed to correctly attach them in original post.

Thanks

Thanks @Anonymous. I think the form set in the Hierarchy Setting is not included in the app. If you open the model-driven app in the App Designer, can you make sure that all the forms are selected?

Hi @EricRegnier

Thanks for your reply.

I have attached a screen shot and it does look like I have attached all forms.

The "component capture" form is slightly modified to only show minimum properties.  It includes the Parent property which is the basis for the self-referenced hierarchy.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Strange... Are you logged in as a system admin (you as a user has the security role “system administrator” assigned)? If not, would it be possible to try with that, just to make sure it’s not a privilege issue? Also, can you please share the screenshot of your hierarchy setting of the Component entity?

Thanks

Hi,
I have the same problem!
I have created a simple self-referential entity called 'MBK2Category' (see Entity.png) and a simple list of records defining a simple hierarchy (see Records.png). When I click the hierarchy-icon next to the name of a record to view the hierarchy structure I get the same error (see Error.png).
(It appears that the hierarchy structure is actually render correctly behind the error message)
I noticed a strange thing while creating the self-referential reference, just after I created it - but before clicking the save-button - it showed up in the list of Relationships as a One-to-many relationship as expected (see RelationshipBeforeSave.png). But after clicking save it was listed as a Many-to-one relationship (RelationshipAfterSave1.png). If I open the relationship in detail view it also shows as a Manu-to-one relationship (see RelationshipAfterSave2.png).

Kind regards
Michael

Here are the rest of the images I referred to in my first post above: RelationshipBeforeSave.png, RelationshipAfterSave1.png and RelationshipAfterSave2.png

(apparently, you can only upload and attach a maximum of three images to a post...?)

Kind regards

Michael

I am so sorry for not getting back earlier.

It was indeed the Hierarchy settings.

Thanks you so much!
