Saving Dataverse table column view

Hello everyone,

I don't know what I do wrong and it was working in the past, but something seems to have change.

When logging into dataverse and adjusting the table view with hide and show of the columns it's working fine.

Coming back the next day the view is totally changed and back to what I would say a default.

I thought about the following already.

  • Colleague using the same account - not possible as I am the only one working on that problem
  • Using the incognito browser somehow prohibits dataverse from saving the view
  • Publishing customization - does not work

Anybody an idea how I can save the table column view? It's taking time to set up the needed view each day.

Hi everyone,

so I finally got a response, yet it is a design topic which seems to be intentional.

When the table is in a solution and you adjust the view inside dataverse, the changes are stored in your localStorage of the browser. Meaning that you won't find the change if you use two different browsers. Outside the solution the default view is actually saved and changed.

You will find the currently displayed view in your developer tools --> localStorage --> make.powerapps.com --> filter for systemcustomization --> the last entry or the one before contains an array with the first 6 column to show filtered by schema name.

From my point of view that's not great by design. I will submit an idea to change it.

If possible please support my submitted idea: https://ideas.powerapps.com/d365community/idea/25105db9-beb6-ee11-92bd-6045bd7ac068

Comment from MS support:

The “columns and data” grid in Maker portal can have two behaviors depending on the context. If you are in “Tables” context, the grid will use the default view of the entity to expose the data. However, when you are in “Solution” context, the grid will take the first 6 columns added on this solution, sorted alphabetically by schema name.

The purpose of this behavior in solution context is to prioritize and show the columns that are added (being worked) on the solution.

When this information is fetched from the server (msdyn_solutioncomponentsummary), it gets stored in the local storage with key starting with “DataFlex”. In case you make any changes on the columns of this grid, this information is going to be updated locally as your preferred columns and therefore it’s going to be the one used. However, if by any chance the local storage is cleared, it’ll go back to the default TOP 6.

As mentioned, per product team’s understanding, this grid is not supposed to be tied to a particular view but be dynamically defined based on the context.

hi @Lucas001

You must customize the view not from there but from view, there you will enter the customization area and you can customize your view

Hi @Jmanriquerios,

I tried your suggestion, but unfortunately It's not working.

As far As I know I can chagne the views for MDAs etc on the view tab.

But it seems that the Default view inside a dataverse table is not connected to a view.

Any other suggestions?

hi @Lucas001

You can write me privately so I can help you, because unless you have a filter you will be able to see all the records

Hi @Lucas001 ,

You are modifying the view on the user interface in the Model App and when you do this it is "personal" and will not change any of the system views.  You will notice that as soon as you make a modification on the front-end in the model app you will see a "*" on the right side of whatever view you were looking at which means you have made modifications.  You can save this to a personal view at that point...  See article below on the options and steps to save.

Hope this helps. Please accept if answers your question or Like if helps in any way.

Hi @dpoggemann,

the link you provided seems to be for a model driven app.

The view I want to save somehow is the one in dataverse directly without any app opened.

The view below my table settings. As far as I remember it stays usually when you add or hide columns, but it seems like it does not.

any ideas?

Hi @Lucas001

You must click where it indicates +more add the columns you need and that's it

Notice the first view, Owner was not there, then I added it and left and came back in and it was there

Hi @Jmanriquerios,

thats what I do, the problem is, that it works fine for the day or as long as a tab is open.

When I login on the next day or in another session, I will face the first screen again, in your case without the owner.

What I want to know is, how can I save the view with in your example the owner column visible.

Hi @Lucas001 ,

Sorry, you are right, I read this as you were in the model app trying to save your personal view after you had changed data, not in the maker portal, my mistake.

This view is only maintained for the session as far as I know, I don't know of a way to modify and maintain the columns.  This is where I would create the views and put them into a model app for viewing...

Hope this helps. Please accept if answers your question or Like if helps in any way.
Thanks,
Drew

Hi @Lucas001

Indeed there are no options to do what you ask, other than creating an application I have to insert the table in the application and from there work the view
