import data into multiple tables

Hi

Is it posible to import data from excel to multiple dataverse tables?

For example this scenario

Table1: Projects

Table2:Tasks

Projects have Let's say Project name column

Tasks have Task name and a Project name as a lookup to Projects table

Now i want to import into table Tasks and i try to do that via Excel online just copy paste but i see that data in Project table needs to exist

Can i do a workaround so if i import data and the lookup project name value does not exist in Projects table - this record is crerated in Project table and also created in tasks table with referencing the lookup column between those 2 tables?

Hi @jja ,

I do not know of any option for this with Excel import or even Dataflows.  You should be able to accomplish with Power Automate but not sure performance will meet your needs.

Power Automate Flow Approach - You could loop through the records in the file and check to see project exists, if it does not you could create the project and then add the task setting the project to the Project you found or the project you created.

Hope this helps. Please accept if answers your question or Like if helps in any way.
Thanks,
Drew

@jja Unfortunately Data verse cannot handle it. Even in bulk Data Migration process, order of loading is an important aspect to overcome dependency. You will have to import projects first then Tasks. Like @dpoggemann mentioned performance needs to be considered if you uploading a bulk file if you wish to use power automate as you are looking for upsert operation for project.

@AhmedSalih

That partialy solves my problem keeping in my i need to folow logic where to import data first.

Can i achieve this scenario?

Can i create multiple data flows then create like 1 dataflow that launches other datafloes in a certain row?

Liek first it launches Projects then waits for project to end then launches project tasks so it knows how to link the data?

@jja, is this scenario going to be ongoing loading or it is one time migration?

@AhmedSalih

it is going to be ongoing loading

@jja, DataFlows Connector has only one trigger and one Action at this time. It might be easier to use the Dataverse Trigger flows when a row is added, modified, or deleted.

This, if you want to run a logic based on a Record Change. But if you want to have something acheive the following logic:

DataFlow A: Run

When DataFlow A Run Complete, Refresh DataFlow B.. etc

Thais can be done using DataFlows.

Your First DataFlow A, should be Scheduled to Run Automatically in a certain time. Then Run DataFlow B after the trigger of  When a dataflow refresh completes
