New Power FX formula bar

Hey guys.
I've been testing the new formula bar and it looks great.
However, I noticed that when we define formulas in the Formulas property, the app automatically removes them when selecting a screen or selecting another App property.
Following information:

- version:

Roverandom_0-1678992253784.png

Steps to recreate:
1 - Enable Named Formulas;

2 - Enable new Power FX formula bar
3 - Add formula in Formula property
3 - Select screen or other property

Hi! I hope I was helpfull. Please always mark the answer that helped you, so others who need it will find it faster.

Hi @ngohw,

The new formula bar is built on top of VSCode's core editor technology. So the behavior you described comes from VSCode. I never realized this in my own VSCode setup but i see the same behavior you described in local VSCode as well. I think some people might like it and some might not. Like other user suggested below, it might be a good idea to allow users to override some things to fit their needs like disabling accepting suggestions on Enter click for you. This is a really good suggestion that I can bring up to the right team.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Could you elaborate more on clicking on the formula bar once? That shouldn't be the case. If it is then you may have found another bug. It would be nice if you can elaborate more on that.

Hi @LuizVicente

This is really a good suggestion. I will share this with the right team.

It's been a while since I've used VS Code for software development, so maybe my memory is a bit hazy -- but absolutely a configurable setting to change the dedicated key to select an IntelliSense option. Some people may not even like TAB - it would be nice to have it be any modifier key, but of course this may be difficult given its browser-based.

As for the clicking on formula bar, I can't replicate this anymore -- so you can ignore me on that point, as I was likely doing something wrong 🙂

Another gripe that's happened to me quite a few times, if I'm typing a data source out I start it with apostrophes ' out of muscle memory, and then pick the correct IntelliSense option. With the new formula bar, it ends up pasting in apostrophes for me again even though I've already wrote it.

So for example, if I have a table called 'Test Data' and want to use it in a Filter function, I would normally type out:

Filter(

'Te

And then IntelliSense will pop up and I pick Test Data. However, once I paste it in, it ends up writing:

Filter(

''Test Data'

Because of the apostrophe at the start, this is no longer valid syntax and I have to go to the start of the line and remove the apostrophe I put in, despite it not necessarily being wrong to do in the first place. This also affects functions like ShowColumns where you specify field logical names with ".

Let me know if you need any more details!

@ngohw

We are also aware of this bug and have it in our backlog. There are very few other cases like this where new formula bar's intellisense doesn't respect already typed characters. I will bring this up to the team. Thank you again for the suggestion.

Meanwhile, i'd still recommend to not type ' and the actual characters between '' and intellisense would show you the matches between '' and then you can accept that and it won't insert extra '. Regardless of that, this is an issue which should be addressed

Hiya, bringing this up again since I saw version 24012 has been rolled out to US. I'm based in the UK so haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet but saw that new formula bar can now be resized by drag again, are there possibly any other misc. changes to new formula bar e.g. anything I had mentioned earlier in this thread? Thanks, keep up the good work 🙂

I can't officially speak to that but do try out the new resizing functionality and let me know you if you have any feedback about it here.

Another issue - if I highlight text and then press ctrl-f, the find box should be populated with the highlighted text; this is the behaviour of find and replace in the old formula bar, and the default behaviour in vscode.

Another huge problem - the attachments control cannot properly configured, the options to set name and value aren't visible when the new formula bar is active, screenshot of the two properties in the old formula bar:
