Save As in modern command bar

The "Save As" function in the modern command bar does not allow replacing an existing app with the same name. This means that the existing app has to be deleted before saving an app with the same name. This will be a hassle as the new app will have to be reshared, with a new link etc.

The old command bar "Save As" function has the Replace option, which we frequently use to update app versions. It would be convenient to have this in the modern command bar as well.

I strongly agree.

Functionality to save a sample app over the top of another app is critical. Please give us back the ability to save an app over the top of another existing app.

Alternatively, please give us an option to revert out of the modern command bar experience and back to the older UI that allows us to Save As over the top.

I totally Agree.

Saving over an existing App is CRITICAL, and is the way that us Developers can Release new versions of our apps.

We now no longer have the ability to Release our Apps.

I am completely stumped until this feature is back - I cannot release new version of Apps to my Clients.

Also, I am COMPLETELY SICK of Microsoft removing features and capabilities WITHOUT WARNING.

In any other industry, changing a product AFTER PURCHASE is ILLEGAL - how on earth do Microsoft get away with it?

I am opening a Critical Support Ticket, and will let the community know the response I get from Microsoft.

FYI...

@timl Has discovered and given a workaround:

If you click on the variables menu item - that will open the "old" file menu that enables you to select the old 'save as' menu item.

Apart from the 'variables' workaround mentioned in this thread here, you could also Export and then replace the intended App during the Import process when asked which app to update

(although I agree, Save As is how I am comfortable doing it)

Thank you so much for bringing this issue to our attention. The product team is now aware of this parity gap between the modern and the classic command bar. We are currently working on a solution to bridge this gap and should be available in production sometime after the new year.

This did have a work around a month ago, where, when you did save as, you could choose existing app to overwrite.  Now, it just says there's already an existing app, tells you that you can replace it, but doesn't give option to.   So now we're stuck not able to move our Dev to Live...  I've looked around and around, cannot find anywhere to Save As and replace.  (Save As is next to save button, but just errors when trying to overwrite existing app, doesn't give you option to, just says one already existing with that name)
