Power platform admin - cannot share app

Hello guys,

Im a power platforms admin and i would like to get access to an app that was created by one of out users and wasnt shared with me.

The problem is, that when i look into this app via the power platform admin center and clicking on the "share" button, nothing seems to happen.

Therefore - i cannot share this app with me and access it.

Any idea why this could happen? i have the right role (power platform admin) and it seems like the "share" button is available for me to click, it just not doing anything.

Thanks for you help!

If you aren't an owner of the app being an admin won't help.  The Share link should be greyed out (disabled) if the app hasn't already been shared with you.  You have to get the owner to share the app with you even if you are an admin.

@Pstork1 Thanks for your reply!
Really? so there is no way for admin to get control over an app he wasnt share with? this is kinda bad..bad happends when the owner of the app no longer works in the company? logic says there must be someother way to get control over it.

And by the way - i *can* see the "share" button (not grayed out) - it just dont do anything when i click on it.

Hi @Barak_S,

You can use Power Apps PowerShell module or Power Apps for Admin connector in Power Automate to change the Owner to yourself, share it, then change the Owner back to the original.

I believe using those methods you can skip the intermediary step of changing owners in order to share, it's just through the user interface where you need to be an owner to share using the Share button.

You can see on my screenshot how its disabled in my environment.  I'm not sure why its showing in yours, but its still clearly disabled.

You can also try PowerShell to take ownership of the app, but I don't think that will work if it hasn't been shared with you.

The only other option that I know will work is to open a support ticket with Microsoft.  They can change the ownership of the app.

Hi @Barak_S,

Even if you're not the owner of the apps (I assume canvas app, not model-driven) you can share view admin center. If you haven't tried it already here are the step: go to Admin Center (aka.ms/ppac) --> Environments --> pick your environment --> Click on Power Apps in the Resources section:

EricRegnier_0-1620634969757.png

--> select the ellipses next to the app name --> Share

This is essentially what the Set-AdminPowerAppOwner from the cmdlets does.

Hope this helps!

Sorry @EricRegnier I disagree.  If you look at the screenshot I posted that is exactly what I did and the Share link on the context menu is disabled unless the app has already been shared with you.

It hasn’t been my experience @Pstork1. Apps weren’t shared with me and as a Power Platform Admin, I’ve been able to share with different groups/users that method. Are you a Power Platform admin?

Both a Power Platform and Global admin for the tenant.  I thought that was the way it used to work too, but when I tried it a couple days ago it no longer works (see my screenshot in a previous reply).  I think that behavior has been changed.  Have you tried it recently?

Sharing via make.powerapps.com however, button is disabled if the app wasn’t share with me
