Clarity needed on Canvas App Business Requirement

Hi,

Can I get some clarity on this particular requirement:

CanvasRequirement.jpg

"Ability to select an animal, enter foster family information and update the status to "claimed for foster' on click of a button and the family that the animal is associated with"

1. Ability to select and animal (makes sense)

2. Enter foster family information and update status to 'claimed for foster' on click of a button

I understand this as needing a (new) form for the user (not yet listed as a foster family) to enter their info (name, address etc), then when they click a button it submits their information and creates a new foster family record, and changes the shelter status to 'claimed for foster'.

Question: What about if they are already listed as a foster family. Would there then also be a requirement to choose their name from a drop down, without having to enter their detailed information, and then click a button to submit and change [shelter status] to 'claimed for foster'.

3. The last phrase of the requirement "and the family that the animal is associated with".
Question: Does that mean the button would change the [shelter status] to 'claimed for foster' AND change the [Foster Claimer] value to the new foster family person.

I just don't want to make any assumptions and misinterpret the requirement. Unless we have some flexibility in how we want to interpret it.

Thanks for reading

Anton

Hi @Anton-X ,

There is some flexibility in the requirements, so when it comes to the information collected about the foster family, you can go in the direction you described, but I think that exceeds the requirement.

As for the third point, I think there's a verb missing in the requirement: "notifies". Basically some notification would be sent to the foster family to confirm their claim. This then has an impact on the second point, since contact information needs to be collected.

Hope this helps.

@BCBuizer , thanks for walking through that with me.

I think I was reading into it as there being a 'user registration' or 'foster family registration' component in the requirements. But that's not really asked for. I think it makes more sense to assume the foster family has already registered with the animal shelter outside of the requirements, where their information is already on file.

So that I don't overcomplicate things, I think I'll have to go with allowing the 'already registered' foster family choose their name from a dropdown. Then, their address can be displayed for confirmation they're the right person. Followed by clicking on a button that 'claims the selected animal' for foster, associating the family with the animal, and sending them an email based on the animal and foster family name they chose.
