Create a table of lookup columns?

I realized that in creating a table for Requirement #2, I need to use the data from the Animals table, but organized differently in the form. The main columns are Name, Type, Shelter Status, and Initial Shelter, with a subgrid containing other data from the Animals table. I set the columns as lookups to the Animals table, and when I played the app and imported the csv file, I mapped just those 4 columns to their associated lookup columns in that table. However, this yielded nothing.

Figuring out this requirement has been a headache and I'm thinking of just trying to do the name as a lookup and then entering the rest of the data for the 3 columns individually. However, I know we're supposed to show that we can use the imported data. How do I accomplish this?

Hi @MorganG ,

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "this yielded nothing"? As part of the data import, first you should create the tables and their relationships, then import the data in the dimension tables and lastly in the fact tables.

By the latter I mean that first you need to populate the Shelter table before you can populate the related LookUp column in the Animal table. In case you reverse the order, you will get errors since the value you are trying to pass in the column does not yet exist in the related table.

Hi @BCBuizer, thanks for your response. My post was a week ago, so I had to go with another approach to meet the requirements and move forward. I had populated all the tables (Animals, Shelters, and Foster Family Information) before trying to create a 4th table of lookups. But the 4th table just remained empty after establishing the relationships to the other tables.
