Doubts in the requirement details for modern driven app as mentioned in the pdf

I am not quite clear with the requirements.

  • I have shown the animal list , it can be filtered for each column automatically.
  • After clicking on each animal , i am able to view the details mentioned.
  • If i change the Shelter Status , my current location column also changes appropriately.
  • I am able to create a new animal and assign it to a shelter.

So have i achieved as mentioned upto the third point ? if not , what else is pending ?

I am unclear with the fourth point. Please help me understand it ? I am confused.

Hi @PratikJ ,

From my understanding of the task and your post, I think you have been able to achieve the first 3 requirements.

What I understand by the fourth requirement:

Ability to update the details for an animal such as medical issues veterinary information and mark an animal as "ready to foster" once they have passed their medical requirements

  1. Is being able to play the app, select an animal record and edit/update the animal details (the simple fields such as Medical Conditions column and Next Vet Date). I would compare this with the loans records as an example.
  2. I would liken the other requirement (mark an animal as "ready to foster"), to the choice field in the in Genre field of the Books record. Being able to select "ready for foster" from the Shelter Status list of options for example.

If you are already able to do all that, then I don't see anything else pending.

Here is another suggestion by @ Ahmed Salih about adding more columns >>>

Hi @PratikJ ,

Have you been able to clear your doubts on this topic? If so, what are your thoughts?

Looking at the canvas app requirements, the focus seem to be on animals ready to be claimed for foster. I'm thinking some additional columns (animals table) that could be included for example are: VetExamPassed, DatePassed, isReadyforFoster (Yes/No), ShelterName ... or what do you think?

Hi Guys,

As mentioned already, it is a bit unclear what the statement "once they have passed their medical requirements" entails.

I am considering adding a column "PassedMedicals", which would be a YES if  "Medical conditions" & "Medical treatments" = None.

Then my canvas app would show animals with "PassesMedicals" and "Ready for foster" conditions fulfilled.

I hope this satisfies the requirements.

Hello!

I agree, it's a bit unclear. Based on the comment from AhmedSalih in @Oyins screenshot, I added a new column to the Animals table called PassedMedicalRequirements with the data type "Yes/no" and made it optional with the default choice "No".

Then I added a business rule on the Animals table, to automatically set the ShelterStatus to "Ready for Foster" when the PassedMedicalRequirements is set to Yes.

So when an animal has arrived in the shelter, the staff can update the medical requirements, details etc. and then when they've done all the tests they can set the PassedMedicalRequirements to Yes. When they do, the animal is automatically marked as Ready for foster and will be shown in the canvas app.

Not sure if this is required, but that's how I solved it.

@StineN I think you have a nice approach, since the value of Shelter Status is set automatically. I will adopt your suggestion together with the approach I suggested above, only concern would be that the business rule shouldn't disable the staff ability to manually set the status using the shelter status drop down.

Thanks! 🙂 I agree - in my case the creation of the business rule didn't affect the staff's ability to manually update the status. I simply added the PassedMedicalRequirements to the form in the model-driven app, in addition to the ShelterStatus dropdown. That's also why I added the condition "ShelterStatus equals "In Shelter"" to the business rule - or else the the ShelterStatus would be reset

On a sidenote - in my case I haven't added logic to change the status back to "In Shelter" if PassedMedicalRequirements is set to No after Yes the first time.

@StineN  Thanks again for the suggestion of the business rule. Now I implemented the following:

  1. Calculated column "PassedMedicals" = "Yes" IF "Medical conditions" AND "Medical treatments" = "None", else "No"
  2. Business rule condition checks if ShelterStatus = "In Shelter" AND PassedMedicals = "Yes", then sets ShelterStatus as "Ready for Foster".
