Model-driven app - Requirements

Hello guys,

 

I just wanted some clarification, associated to the Model-drive app requirements, regarding a couple of points listed below:

 

1) Is "shelter name" the reference for the column "initial shelter", or it is required to output the actual Shelter Name contained in the table Shelter Table Final?
2) Is "location" the reference for "current shelter"?

3) In the fourth requirement, is it possible to clarify what is "once they have passed their medical requirements"?

There are a few assumptions to be made with the requirements which means it is up to you to decide the approach to tackle these assumptions. However, a few of us in the community have raised similar questions and I can help with giving you information on how I personally have approached these.

 

I will answer your questions in the order you have asked.

 

1) Shelter Name is a requirement but not part of the Animal table data. Here you will need to create a column that presents the Shelter Names.

 

My approach that was suggested from another community member is to have the Initial Shelter column as a Lookup to the Shelter table, then create a 'Single Line of Text' formula column and add the following formula.

'Initial Shelter'.ShelterName

You will need to adjust to suit your naming conventions.

2) How you handle location will be entirely your choice. Personally, I treated this as "Current Location" as to me, this made more sense to know where the animal currently is. I am using a 'Single Line of Text' formula column with a 'Switch' method which displays the ID's for either FosterID or ShelterID based on the 'Shelter Status'.

3) "mark an animal as “ready to foster” once they have passed their medical requirements.".

This requirement wants to test your ability to restrict user input within the Model-driven app form based on conditions. In this scenario, you could assume that unless the animal passes their medical, you will not be able to mark the animal as "ready to foster".

 

This means you will need to think about what determines a pass of medical and then decide how to restrict the status change of the animal until the medical is passed.

 

I personally have a Yes/No column in my animal table called 'Passed Medical', I am then using 'Business Rules' within my table to control the behavior of the Yes/No column and my 'Shelter Status' column.

 

Here is a high-level summary of my approach.

If there is a date in the 'Next Vet Date' column, lock the 'Passed Medical' toggle. If there is no date, unlock the 'Passed Medical' toggle.

 

If the 'Passed Medical' toggle is set to "yes", unlock the 'Shelter Status' column. If the 'Passed Medical' toggle is set to "no", keep the 'Shelter Status' locked.

 

Hopefully this helps clear things up.
