Office Script Errors With Function That Has While Loop and Return Table Data

I apologize,  my script is a mess. I am new to office script and have little familarity with javascript. Any help or feedback is appreciated.

I am writing a power automate flow that shuffles and emails a schedule every week. I had everything working except the script did not actually effect the excel sheet. After troubleshooting for a while I realized that it was becuase my funtion returned void. I am working on implementing returning the table after the loop has shuffled the schedule and met the conditions in the sheet. I looked for example code, but I am having errors.

I attached a screenshot of the script I have written.

Additionally, I am getting the following errors:

  • 1, 48] Cannot find name 'TableData'.
  •
[5, 6] Type 'string | number | boolean' is not assignable to type 'number'.
Type 'string' is not assignable to type 'number'.
  •
[10, 3] Type 'string | number | boolean' is not assignable to type 'number'.
Type 'string' is not assignable to type 'number'.
  •
[19, 21] Cannot find name 'TableData'.
  •
[21, 20] Cannot find name 'returnObjectFromValues'.
  •
[10, 45] Invoking read methods inside of a loop could lead to slow performance of the script. For more information, please visit https://aka.ms/office-scripts-performance
  •
[19, 6] Office Scripts cannot infer the data type of this variable. Please declare a type for the variable.
  •
[1, 47] [Power automate incompatibility error] Return type error: 'TypeReference' is not a valid array type.

Could you copy + paste your script as text into a code sample block

like this

It just makes it easier for others to help because it allows us to copy + paste your code into our own script 🙂

Also, could you outline exactly what you are trying to achieve? Do you want to return the table data as an array  where each index represents a single row of the table?

For your errors:

  • 1, 48] Cannot find name 'TableData'.
  • TableData isn't defined anywhere as a type or interface. See if this tutorial is of help Use JSON to pass data to and from Office Scripts - Office Scripts | Microsoft Learn The basic idea is you need to define the type like interface TableData { tableName: string; tableData: value } as an example.
[5, 6] Type 'string | number | boolean' is not assignable to type 'number'.
Type 'string' is not assignable to type 'number'.
  • This happens because the value can be any of the types string, number, or boolean whereas condition is defined as a number. Try typecasting it, so instead of ...getValue() use (...getValue() as number) this tells typescript that you want a number type. If that doesn't work, try parsing it as a number. This means transforming the data into a number type How to convert a string to number in TypeScript? - Stack Overflow
[10, 3] Type 'string | number | boolean' is not assignable to type 'number'.
Type 'string' is not assignable to type 'number'.
  • see above
[19, 21] Cannot find name 'TableData'.
  • see above
[21, 20] Cannot find name 'returnObjectFromValues'.
  • returnObjectFromValues is not defined anywhere. I assume you got this code from an example you saw somewhere. In that example there should be a block like function returnObjectFromValues() { // some more code } that contains the logic of that function
[10, 45] Invoking read methods inside of a loop could lead to slow performance of the script. For more information, please visit https://aka.ms/office-scripts-performance
  • This is just a warning which is not an error, if you find your script taking too much time then this would be a good place to start debugging as loops can end up invoking a lot of time consuming operations inadvertantly
[19, 6] Office Scripts cannot infer the data type of this variable. Please declare a type for the variable.
  • This is because TableData doesn't exist so it doesn't see a type assigned
[1, 47] [Power automate incompatibility error] Return type error: 'TypeReference' is not a valid array type.

  • This is also because TableData doesn't exist
