Manually start a flow

Hi Community,

Is it possible to start a flow(s) manually from a list?

I would like to have multiple flows connected to a list. e.g. 1st flow would send the item for review. 2nd would send for approval, another would reject etc.

What would be the best approach for this? Mutliple flows with conditions or one flow with multiple conditions.

In SPD you can create a workflow manually and just wondering if this is available in Flows

Cheers

Hi Damien,

I think it would be better to have all these in one flow. But your description is quite ambiguous and if you want to know how to create this flow exactly you might need to decribe in detail.

You can start a flow manually using the trigger "Flow button for mobile".

Thanks Mona,

Well basically I would like to control how the flow is triggered on a SP list. I know that this could be handled by conditions, but was also wondering if the flow can be triggered manually from the SP list (online, not on mobile) so the user can decide e.g. send for review, send for approval, etc.

Sorry if I am being a bit vague.

Cheers

Hey Damien,

This functionality to trigger specific flows from a Sharepoint list item will be available in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Thanks!

Avani

Hi

Is this function to trigger specific flows from a Sharepoint list item available yet? I would really like to have the option to start a manual flow on an item when required.

Thanks, Kirsty

I'm interested to know as well, if I can manually trigger a specific flow. Thanks.

Hi Avani,

Are there any updates on this being added?  This functionality would significantly improve our experience with Flow.

Hi!

I just wanted to ask if there are any news regarding the manual triggering of flows? To be specific I want to start a flow for a selected list item but cannot add the flow to my list. Or maybe I do not know how to do it...

Thank you very much!

Best,

Thomas

Same here. Any updates on when it will be possible?

SAme here. It would be great to have the possiblity to trigger a flow manually and not based on any conditions (e.g. collect feedback on a specific document).

I have a question for Manually Trigger Flow.

We have some of the team flows where in one of the manually trigger FLow I am not getting option for Run FLow.

I have owner acces still i am not getting option Run Flow.

If i Click on Run Now --I am not getting Run FLow Option.

Could you please suggest on the same. What i have to do for the same

I too want to be able to manually trigger a flow. I understand that Flow is supposed to replace Workflows created in SP Designer. Traditional workflows can be triggered manually from the SP list and this is very important to be able to test the creation of a new list.

If this functionality is not available for Flow, I have to continue to use traditional Worflows, which actually work really well and are so flexible.

Thanks.

Hello,

any news on this? it would be very helpful to start manually flows...

We are planning to create new sharepoint online sites.

If this is not possible, we have to use sharepoint designer and workflows.

But i think, flow will be the product for the future?

Marc

Any update? I'm unable to trigger Flows from SharePoint Online. Is this functionality available in public SP Online but not Government Cloud?

Hi,

In SharePoint Online you have to use the "modern experience". If you do so, the flow will be available in the dropdown of an item or in the bar above if one (and only one) item is selected.

I hope this helps!

Best,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for the suggestion. I wish it was that easy, but the Flow dropdown doesn't show in the bar or context menu. I've tried in both Modern and Classic sites, with Classic and New list experiences. Microsoft's response on my case yesterday was to enable Preview Features in the admin console, but that option is grayed out. I guess I'll just wait and see if Support comes up with something.

Thanks!

Ok, then the best of luck to you.

I think you already did it, but just to be sure: It only appears if "For a selected element" (maybe the wording is slightly different) as trigger has been choosen.

And the workaround I posted before: My first flow ran every time an item had been changed or created, than it checked a switch named "Run flow". If it was set to "yes" it did what it had to do and changed the switch to "no". If the switch was set to "no" it did nothing.

Not very elegant, but in case of urgent matter...

Best,

Thomas

Here's a post I wrote, on how to manually trigger a flow by creating a button that shows next to each item in a list or library:

Button in SharePoint List to Trigger Microsoft Flow

Thank you, Laura. I've watched your video and gone through your post multiple times. I'm able to get the button to show up, but it doesn't do anything. I haven't had any luck with the hyperlink yet, because it always says it's not valid JSON, even after changing all the quotes and verifying all of the brackets are correct. I see from the Roadmap that Flow/Powerapps availability is coming to GCC tenants possibly next quarter, so right now I'm hoping that's why it doesn't want to work for me. Once I can get the button doing something I'll take another look at the hyperlink. Hopefully the hyperlink will show in the item view, since the button doesn't.

If necessary, I created a PowerApp that does what I need, even though that means licensing everyone individually and setting the API bypass consent.

Thank you for your videos and posts! They've been extremely helpful as I learn while building our new Intranet from the ground up.

Thanks again,
Jon
