Adding a row to excel was passing before but not anymore

So basically, I have a flow that tries to fetch data from Dynamics 365 DB then I write whatever was fetch from the said DB to Excel.

It was passing before, but for some reason, I usually now get this error:

So for reference, here is my flow which was failing now:

I want to know what was the cause of this and how can we possibly fix and avoid this. Thank you

Hi @Anonymous ,

As replied before, the error message told that the target session is invalid, you need to troubleshooting it with the error message.

Take a try to add the row to another table or take a try to add a new item to the sharepoint list to see if the issue still exists.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Could you please share the screenshot of the add a row into a table action?

I'm afraid that there is any wrong in the action configuration.

And the error message told that the target session is invalid, you need to troubleshooting it with the error message.

Take a try to add the row to another table or take a try to add a new item to the sharepoint list to see if the issue still exists.

As requested, here it is:

Actually I have a bunch of these but sometimes, it does fail for some reason. So I want to ask, what would be the best way to avoid this happening? Thank you.

Thanks for reply. And as per experience, it was intermittently happening since I was adding rows in excel inside a loop, and after adding some rows successfully, then that error happens at some point and its very inconsistent with the very same set of data. Say I will insert

[

apple,

banana,

orange,

mango,

grapes

]

at some point, that error will appear when I try to insert orange. But sometimes, success happens after orange then it will fail at mango. You see what I mean here?

Hi @Anonymous ,

Sorry for I couldn't help you on this since it couldn't be confirmed on my side.

I know this topic is nearly a year old now but for anyone else running into this problem, I corrected it with a "Do Until" loop.

For the final step in the do until, you need a compose action that gets the status code from the previous table row action.

The input for the compose action should be: @{outputs('Add_a_row_into_a_table')['statusCode']}

In the posters screenshot, the "Add a row" name is different, so the compose would actually be: @{outputs('Add_a_row_into_Others_table')['statusCode']}

The "Do until" should be set to run until Outputs = 200 (status code for successful row add).  This causes the action to retry until it is successful.

In my setup I was testing this to export SharePoint file properties to an Excel spreadsheet which is slightly different but the same concept applies.

The person who wrote above me has a neat solution! But I'll show you a neater one.

You are receiving this error because Power Automate is trying to add to the table multiple times at once.

Why? Because the "apply to each" action runs multiple instances at a time, typically 20 instances at a time, this means its trying to add 20 rows at almost the same time.

What you can do is simple, just change it so that it runs once at a time, this way Power Automate will only be able to add to the table once at a time rather than 20 times.

You simply go into settings of the apply to each:

Dmathew12_0-1659432777371.png

then just lower the "degree of parallelism" to 1!

Dmathew12_1-1659432846927.png

(and turn on "Concurrency Control")

This should completely eradicate this issue!!

Hope this helped C:

I assume it's attempting to add multiple at once for efficiency's sake, no? My Flow was already running for over an hour when I cancelled it due to the error discussed in this thread. I don't want to use a solution that could bog it down even more (perhaps even 20x slower, in theory? Likely not, but I just don't know how these algorithms work and don't want to risk a slow-down..) So I'll use the other person's solution for now (Either way, either your answer, or the person's above you, should be changed to the accepted answer. Instead of the useless comment that is currently there)

FYI I tried setting concurrency to 1 on the Apply to Each loop but still get the same "The target session is invalid" error.
