Export To File for Power BI Report - Error 404 "FeatureNotAvailableError"

I get error 404 "FeatureNotAvailableError" on using Export To File for Power BI Report

The Power BI report is in a Premium workspace set up through the Power BI Premium Per User trial. I tried exporting as PDF or PPTX but both fail with the same error.

The error message is not super helpful to work out what part of the step is actually not available.

I'm able to go to the Report or Dashboard and click on subscribe and send it out that way.  There's a way to attach a PDF of the full report as well as a preview image.  It fits my needs.

2023 and having the same issue with PPU and Premium workspace. That's disappointing 😞

Same, spent days and days building a set of reports, which need to be exported into PDFs based on filters about 50 times. ONCE per year we would use this, saving a lot of time.

Yet barrier after barrier, Microsoft! you can't tell me exporting PDFs (which i can do fine on desktop) requires that much power that i need o pay £4,000 a year to get it! £15 a month for Premium was not enough for you i guess.

I want to make use of PowerBI i really do! but everytime theres reasons i can't

I also find this extremely disappointing and frustrating : /
Thumbs down to Microsoft for not including this feature in the PPU subscription!

I am also facing the same problem. Is there any way to overcome this problem?

Hello,

What I have done its use the suscription utility.

JGL_0-1677569623460.png

Go to "more options" and check the "Attach complete data" (I'm using pdf format)

JGL_1-1677569859578.png

You will recive an email (following your schedule) with the pdf attached

JGL_2-1677569960905.png

Later you must set a new rule in your outlook to send automatically this email, its not fancy but at least you can share the info.

I hope that this could help you.

Have a nice day.

Thank you for sharing your valuable guidelines. I am already used this approach previously. I am finding another way to overcome this problem.

Hi,

Have you found another way to share the report by email and pdf?

Regards

No, Maybe This feature is available only for the premium users. I am also try with the premium per user(PPU) license to get facility. But this is not available for this license. On Other way, premium license is too much costly ($5k).

I've also done it this way; for example, if you have 500 receivers, each of which has its own filter, you'll need to make their own distinct reports and then change the subscription. The difficulty is that if you need to make modifications, you will need to update each report individually before releasing them. Please suggest if there is better way to do this with pro or ppu licence

So what i ended up doing, using the program AutoHotKey to write a macro

which loops the spreadsheet and sets the filter, then clicks the export to PDF button.

Problem i had, for some reason maybe due to how badly written PowerBI Desktop is, after doing about 6 exports, the export to PDF function grinds to a halt. Taking previously about 1 second per page, to over 10 seconds per page.

So i had to code it to export 6 PDFs, then exit the program, reload and continue. I was able to leave it running overnight and come back to 200 odd PDFs that i needed.

As of today, June 2023, in the article below it should support this feature exporting to PDF. I still have the same error. Did I misunderstand something Microsoft?

I have the PPU license, normally I can export the whole report from the workspace, but I cannot export it with power automate. It's complete bull**bleep**.

Hi All,

It's march 2024 and apart of all the efforts of everyone and numerous posts about it and numerous votes in the ideas page, Microsoft still didn't make the feature available for Premium per user. It's so frustrating that every single feature have to be a subscription and every time you to use it, Microsoft slice the tool even more to charge even more subscription from the users. That is not just frustrating, it's greedy as it's finest. The UX is turning to an horrible experience, which should be replaced to HX and the connectors are not working properly. We spend more than £800 a month to use premium connectors and we use 2 max as we can't sign up just for the ones we use. Also, most of the connectors require you to sign up and pay another subscription. This is a vicious circle of incompetence and greediness.

I hope in a near future, more and more start up companies start to develop automation tool and make it available at decent prices to compete in the market.

For all the Microsoft product owners out there.

If you gonna make a tool that suppose to work, test it first with everything you suppose to provide as a feature and provide a useful and clear tutorial where people can find the solution and not spent days, weeks, months looking for something that is hidden in a page that has no link anywhere.

If you want to do it something good, do it properly. no half way through.

Hi @P0werUser

Have you found any workaround? Same issue, PPU license, want to automate a full report export filtered by client and send by email. Recipient is always the same, and then forwards to clients.

Would using paginated reports change anything? Or same issue?

Thanks!

The PPU license will work with Paginated reports, if you want to go that way.  In my experience, it allows you to export a report once every 5 minutes.  You can also use an embedded license, which is more complicated to set up and use, but will allow you to generate a report once every 45 seconds or so.

I ended up learning and creating a paginated report. Took some time to do it properly, but filtered subscription works just fine with PPU.

Cheers!
