Trigger Email When Date in Form Response is Equal to Today's Date

I need an email to be sent when the Separation Date (field in a MS form) is equal to Today's date. However, I keep getting the following error:

ActionBranchingConditionNotSatisfied. The execution of template action 'Send_an_email_notification_(V3)_4' skipped: the branching condition for this action is not satisfied.

Can someone please help?? Thanks!

Hello @jsk1983

Yes, can see that one 🙂 thanks

You are comparing two dates - the 2nd date uses utcnow() expression and it contains both the date and the time, so your date from the form will never be equal to it.

If your date from the form only contains the date, not the time, then change the 2nd date expression to:

formatDateTime(utcnow(),'yyyy-MM-dd')

Try it out and come back to us 🙂

Kind regards, John

Hello @jsk1983

Ok, thanks 🙂 Change the expression format to 'MM/dd/yyyy' then it will have the same format as the Separation Date.

Kind regards, John

Hello @jsk1983

Can't see you screenshot as I got no permissions to see it 😄

Please add it in your post here or just describe your condition that you have and what the values are from your run.

Kind regards, John

Sorry about that 🙂

How about this link?

Updated the date (utcnow) format, but same error message.

Hello @jsk1983

It is not an error message, it is just a statement that your condition did not result in going down that branch 🙂

Anyway, look in the flow and tell us what is the value of the date from the form? It is apparently not todays date, 2020-07-31 (my date in Latvia).

Kind regards, John

The Separation Date from the form is 07/31/2020.

Yes, that worked! Thanks so much 🙂

One question, though. Let's say that someone submitted the form 2 weeks before their separation date, but I need that email to be sent out on their separation date, how would I set up that flow?

Hello @jsk1983

Good to hear that it worked 🙂

About the future separation date. I would store the forms entry in a sharepoint list.

Then I would create a recurrent flow that runs every day and checks to see if the sharepoint list contains items with a separation date equal today (just like your condition) and if it does, send out the email.

Kind regards, John
