Dynamically pull array name based on another array attribute

Hi,

I've been stuck at this for a while now. I have an array that looks like this:

OneFityLashes_0-1670428790070.png

After that I run an apply to each for each item in that array and pull basic information into individual composes:

OneFityLashes_1-1670428880219.png

For each groups listed in groups, I have a count which will be added to a spesific array.

They are called F1ErrorCount, F3ErrorCount and F5ErrorCount. The logic is e.g if friendlyname is Microsoft 365 F1, error count will be added to F1ErrorCount array.

The problem I'm encountering is that I want to use a dynamic way to get the value of the arrays, so I don't have to create 4 different ways of doing this based on names. I've tried different composes with:

  • variables('Array')
  • variables(Outputs('Array'))

I get the following error message:

OneFityLashes_2-1670429431924.png

The "Array" compose looks like its working:

OneFityLashes_3-1670429496308.png

Ideally a compose would output value of F1ErrorCount in the first round, F3ErrorCount in the second round and F5ErrorCount in the third and final round.

How can I dynamically get an output of an array where the array name is pulled based on a compose?

Can you show an example of what the final output would be?

Are you just trying to find out how many objects in your array have the Friendly Name Microsoft 365 F1, how many have Friendly Name Microsoft 365 F3, and how many have Friendly Name Microsoft 365 F5? If so, then there's a much easier, and more efficient way to do this.

Let me know if this is what you're after and I can build a sample flow, or if you're after something else.

Thanks for your reply. Initially I had one array that I used to count and reset for every round in the loop. The problem with this is parallelism. The count got completely wrong and running this with 1 degree of parallelism isn't an option because I'm using approval later in the flow. I want all approvals to be deployed at once, not 1 by 1 after the first one gets approved/rejected.

I have a compose called Remaining with a number, lets say the value of that compose is 10.

For each round in the loop I want to sub 10 with the number from the diffrent arrays.

First round it will be 10 - F1ErrorCount,

Second round will be 10 - F3ErrorCount

Third round will be 10 - F5ErrorCount

In my head a new compose will look something like this: sub(outputs('Remaining'),variables(Outputs('Array')))

First round it will be sub(outputs('Remaining'),variables('F1ErrorCount'))

Second round will be sub(outputs('Remaining'),variables('F3ErrorCount'))

Third round will be sub(outputs('Remaining'),variables('F5ErrorCount'))

This formula will get this error message:

Appreciate any suggestions!

I'm not sure if this is what you're after. Effectively I'm counting how many instances of each Friendly Name.

See full flow below. I'll go into each of the actions.

Initialize variable is an array variable called varArray which contains some sample data similar to yours.

grantjenkins_1-1671375344893.png

XML is a Compose that converts the array to XML so we can use XPath on it. Note that it also adds a root element so it's valid XML. The expression used is:

xml(json(concat('{"root": { values:', variables('varArray'), '}}')))

grantjenkins_2-1671375453646.png

Select Names takes in the array and uses the following expression for the Mapping. Note that I've also used text mode for the Map (see arrow on screenshot).

item()?['FriendlyName']

grantjenkins_3-1671375576538.png

Select takes in the names from Select Names but uses a union expression to remove any duplicates. The expression used is:

union(body('Select_Names'),body('Select_Names'))

And the expressions used for the fields are:

item()

xpath(outputs('XML'), concat('count(//values[normalize-space(FriendlyName) = "', item(), '"])'))

grantjenkins_4-1671375763994.png

The final output from the Select is:

[
  {
    "Name": "Microsoft 365 F1",
    "Total": 3
  },
  {
    "Name": "Microsoft 365 F2",
    "Total": 1
  },
  {
    "Name": "Microsoft 365 F3",
    "Total": 2
  }
]
