Catch an error due to the gateway being disconnected

Hello everyone

I'm working on a section of my app that will send a lot of data to my database using the Patch function. Of course, I would like to make sure that the data is being sent and received, and therefore trying to treat all the possible errors that could happen.

I'm already using Connection.Connected to check if the Internet connection is available before using the Patch function. I'm also using the Errors function to detect conflicts and other data problems.

However, I still have not found any way to detect if the app's data gateway is offline. Is there anyway to do that?

I always erase the data locally after using the Patch function, so it would be very important that my code can be aware when something goes wrong, so that it does not erase data that has not been successfully sent to the server.

There is no way to determine the status of a gateway in your app.  The app will throw an error during any process to that gateway if it is not available.  PowerApps has very low error catching abilities since it is not a development platform.  The best way to handle it is to assume the gateway is offline and determine your logic for what to do when it is.

It does raise the question though...do you expect that the gateway would be offline so much that you would need to put a lot of effort into handling it?

If such a level of data fidelity is needed, consider putting the operations outside of the app and keep your app simple.  You can utilize PowerAutomate to act as the central gateway for everything.  In other words, data actions would be sent to PowerAutomate to be handled.  The flow would then deal with the individual transactions and any issues that occur from them.

Thanks for the information once more. I will look into the option of leaving this job to Power Automate so the app doesn't have to deal with so much processing.

Do you know if the licenses for Power Automate and Power Apps are separated? I currently have Power Apps licenses because I make use of premium connectors, so I'm wondering if integrating Power Automate into it will result in any additional costs

No, with that licensing, you should be able to use PowerAutomate as well.  If you have a premium for the App, then it should apply for the automate as well.
