I have the following Card, which contain:-
1) Radio button
2) CheckBox
3) Free text input
now how i can force this rule:-
If the checkbox is checked then the user must enter a free text inside the input field, while if the checkbox is not checked the user must select a radio button option? any advice on how i can achieve this? Thanks
The built-in errors are from the data source. You are trying to make a field required in the APP, not in the datasource, so there will never be an error from the datasource.
As mentioned before, you can still just issue the SubmitForm. If the field is required and the Update is blank, then you should still see the error message.
@RandyHayes did not get your point on this ,, can you explain it in more details:-
As mentioned before, you can still just issue the SubmitForm. If the field is required and the Update is blank, then you should still see the error message.
Sure - the point was that .Valid is there to allow you to validate a form proper to impacting the datasource or the expensive datasource data action.
If you choose not to use it, then you can still submit the form as you want.
IF the field is marked as required AND the Update property is blank, then you will just get a standard message in the built-in error label.
I believe, based on what I'm reading from you, this IS what you want.
So, if your Required formula is as provided, and the Update is as provided, then the conditions you mentioned will cause the Required and Update to respond accordingly, and on Submit, you will get the message you want.
@RandyHayes i think we are not getting each other, so you are saying that
So, if your Required formula is as provided, and the Update is as provided, then the conditions you mentioned will cause the Required and Update to respond accordingly, and on Submit, you will get the message you
want.
but in our case the update will be empty and the required will be set to yes but i can submit the form without getting any errors.. you mentioned this is because this field is not a data-source field...
Then there is something not right in your app because, YES, if you set the Required to true (hard or by formula) and you set the Update to blank (hard or by formula), then the form will NOT submit via SubmitForm. The built-in error will simply state that a value is required.
Your field is a Datasource field - otherwise your data card will not have a Required or an Update property.
What is it that you are seeing??
Set the Required to true and set the Update property to Blank()
Then try to Submit the form...you should see the error appear.
@RandyHayesyou made me got lost to be honest ... at first you mentioned that we can submit a form even if the field is empty now you are saying the opposite. either you are missing what i am asking for, or i am not getting what you are saying... in all the case as i mentioned my Card (amount) is a datasource, but i replaced the mapped combo box to be radio buttons and i added a checkbox and a free text field, to implement the Fill-in choices options inside my sharepoint choice field
Yes, I am following what you have and trying to do 100%
I apologize that my initial descriptions might not have been clear. I was sort of providing them on a message by message basis based on your responses.
To be clear:
- You can have a field in your Datasource set as required. If the value from the form is empty (in the Update property), then it will not submit. Required column in the form is not relevant in this scenario - but will normally be true.
- You can have a field in your Datasource set as NOT required. If the value from the form is empty (in the Update property), AND Required is set to false (hard or by formula) then it will submit.
- You can have a field in your Datasource set as NOT required. If the value from the form is empty (in the Update property), AND Required is set to true (hard or by formula) then it will NOT submit.
Sorry of that did not get relayed properly.
@RandyHayesbut what you mentioned is not happening in my case... nor it is happening in other cases...
Works perfectly in every case I have and have ever had. If you set the Required property of the Datacard to true and then set the Update property to Blank and then submit the form, it will show you that a value is required.
@RandyHayesthis is because the singleText field is a datasource field , while in my case i removed the mapped combox box and replace it with Radio, checkbox and TextInout... actually i got this new info from your previous replies!!!
