Copy data from a list to another within a power app

This is my situation:

I have one big SharePoint list (A) with a lot of columns. I created a simple Power App to consult and add new data to that list using a form. It is working good. Now, I need to copy some of the information to another list (B) I created to run a Power Flow to merge that info into a word document. That last part is working, when I create a new item, it will produce the document.

The idea is that the user, if and when need to produce that document, press a button that, in the background, will create a new item in the B list.

For context. I am an attorney (I just like doing/trying this kind of automatization stuff), so the big list A, is a list of the lawsuits we have. It includes all the data we need like the court, value, plaintiff, defendant, etc. The second list B is when I need to produce the power of attorney. For that I just need 4 things (all included in A). The number of the process (TITLE) and the court name and plaintiff and defendant (those last 3 are single line text).

So, What I did is this,

  1. I created a new screen "Poder" and I inserted a Form (Form2) connected to the B Sharepoint  list.
  2. In the Home Screen I have the Gallery connected to A. I added an icon like this: OnSelect: Set(varRecord,ThisItem);ResetForm(Form2);EditForm(Form2);Navigate(Poder)

HomeHome

Now I need to bring some of the A information to Form2 so I can submit it.

I tried using the variable I created "varRecord" but it doesnt work.

Can you please point me to the right direction? There is maybe another way.

Thanks

Alejandro

Hi @acamargog ,

You could create and update context variables within Navigate function to pass the value of a specific column of listA to the Poder screen, and put a different UpdateContext in the Default property of the specified Datacardvalue control. I have test for your reference, please try the following workaround:

@acamargog

varRecord by itself is just a variable that contains a record.

If you want to display specific values of the record, then add them with a .ColumnName.

For example, if you wanted to show the Title column of that record, then you would be concerned with varRecord.Title

I hope this is helpful for you.

Yes, I tried that, and I have this issue, when I am in the Canvas, I can actually see that the variable brought the information, but when in preview, I got "No item to display"

Or maybe I am placing the varRecord on the wrong place.

Thanks again!

@acamargog

Yes, you are using this wrong.

From your picture, it appears that you are working with a Form as I see a TextInput called DataCardValue8.  So, I am not seeing the actual form in your picture, but the Form should have an Item property of varRecord.

Then you would not be changing the Default property like you have, it should be Parent.Default.  The form will do almost all of the heavy lifting for you.

So what is your form property?  And if still issues, perhaps a screenshot of the control tree on the left of your designer showing the form and datacards.

Thanks again @RandyHayes ,

Yes, is a form and the data source is "Poderes Test"(B). Note that this source is different from the one in the Gallery. The Gallery data source is the one with all the information (A).

Just to be clear because my English tends to mix concepts...

The Gallery is connected to Data Source A

The Form with data source B

I suppose that is the reason why the variable is not working. So how can I bring that data from the gallery to the form. so I can submit?

Thank you again!
