Data not being posted to Sharepoint

Hello

I have an edit form with 3 boxes

paulinuk_0-1643124263157.png

When the user clicks a submit button I have the following

Patch(
colDiaryEntries,
Coalesce(
LookUp(
colDiaryEntries,
ID = varCurrentEntry.ID
),
Form1.Updates
),
Defaults(colDiaryEntries)
);

SaveData(
colDiaryEntries,
"diary" & varUserEmailIdentifier
);

// track record that was edited
Collect(
colUnsavedRecords,
{ID: varCurrentEntry.ID}
);

// save collection to local device
SaveData(
colUnsavedRecords,
"localUnsavedRecords"
);

I then have a separate button which should save to Sharepoint

If(Connection.Connected ,
// Add or update records in SharePoint
Patch(
'Site Diary Entries',
ShowColumns(
// Only write records with ID found in colUnsavedRecords
Filter(
colDiaryEntries,
ID in colUnsavedRecords.ID
),
"ID","EntryDate","field_9"
)
);

UpdateContext({locMessage: "Done Save"});

Clear(colUnsavedRecords);

SaveData(
colUnsavedRecords,
"localUnsavedRecords"
);
);

This does not save my changes to Sharepoint

What am I doing wrong?

This is really frustrating as there are no error messages or anything to help me see what the problem is

Paul

@paulinuk

First question is - If you have an EditForm, why are you Patching and not using the SubmitForm?

Actually, in looking a little closer at your second Formula, I see that it is not so much the submitting that is the concern as it is the "when connected" submitting...which yes, you would not do in a SubmitForm.

But, if you are trying to do a disconnected/connected app, then I would suggest checking the connection in the Save/Submit part.  If connected, submit the form.  If not, collect the form data.

Also, my form is bound to colSites which is a local collection, my issue is that its not submitting the changes up to sharepoint

Im patching to a local collection though which I think is working (the first snippet is my submit button)

The second snippet is where I save the local collection to sharepoint if connected

@paulinuk

Yes, so first, forms bound to a collection are not valid as a collection does not have a static schema.

Also have seen that article and there are more steps in it than are needed for basic actions. BUT, more importantly, there are parts that are missing.  So my question next would be, are you looking to do only what he is doing in that article, or are you looking to do full online/offline abilities (i.e. like creating new records and ability to edit them offline)?

In other words, there are a lot more specific steps needed for full ability in both modes, but rather than overload with all of that...what exactly are you looking for?

My requirement is a bit more simple than that article

I dont need to download all of the data from Sharepoint and store locally

What I need is for the user to be able to search for diary entries.  These entries would either be from Sharepoint if connected, or from a local collection if not connected

This local collection is basically all of the diary entries that have been created or edited offline

Eventually yes they will need the ability to add offline

My frustration at the moment is that this doesnt work even in a totally connected scenario, i.e. I havent actually turned off my internet access on the device

Therefore the data should be posted to Sharepoint

I am confused about why there doesnt appear to be any way within PowerApps to diagnose issues like this

I come from a development background, so I am struggling to get used to the lack of info when things dont work!

@paulinuk

So what are you getting in your collection then?
