Hello
I have an edit form with 3 boxes
When the user clicks a submit button I have the following
Patch(
colDiaryEntries,
Coalesce(
LookUp(
colDiaryEntries,
ID = varCurrentEntry.ID
),
Form1.Updates
),
Defaults(colDiaryEntries)
);
SaveData(
colDiaryEntries,
"diary" & varUserEmailIdentifier
);
// track record that was edited
Collect(
colUnsavedRecords,
{ID: varCurrentEntry.ID}
);
// save collection to local device
SaveData(
colUnsavedRecords,
"localUnsavedRecords"
);
I then have a separate button which should save to Sharepoint
If(Connection.Connected ,
// Add or update records in SharePoint
Patch(
'Site Diary Entries',
ShowColumns(
// Only write records with ID found in colUnsavedRecords
Filter(
colDiaryEntries,
ID in colUnsavedRecords.ID
),
"ID","EntryDate","field_9"
)
);
UpdateContext({locMessage: "Done Save"});
Clear(colUnsavedRecords);
SaveData(
colUnsavedRecords,
"localUnsavedRecords"
);
);
This does not save my changes to Sharepoint
What am I doing wrong?
This is really frustrating as there are no error messages or anything to help me see what the problem is
Paul
So you are switching data schemas on a Gallery with that. This is not a good thing to do! It should maintain the schema of any source you provide.
My suggestion would be that you utilize the OnStart or OnVisible to populate your collection from the datasource or stored data.
I took a look at the article that you are trying to muddle through and that is not done correctly there as there seems to be only one mention of setting the Gallery Items to the datasource...which it should not be as, if you're offline, that gallery will be empty. It should be set to the collection as that is the offline source.
So again, when you start your app, you should be gathering the records into your in-memory collection from the datasource, if online, and the saved data if not connected.
Again...the form needs to be based on the datasource, not the collection.
It is highly important that the schema is inferred properly through the app or your results will not be accurate. PowerApps infers the schema from the datasource.
When you set the form to the datasource - it will infer its schema. When you collect from the datasource, it will infer its schema...and it will match the form.
So, when you do something like - Collect(yourCol, yourForm.Updates) then Updates (which is a record based on the schema) will match properly.
How can that work though if it’s offline? Because site diary entries data source will not be available?
Regardless of the result - the form needs to have the datasource set. Otherwise the schema is not relevant.
ALSO, IF you created this form and never connected a Datasource, then HOW did you add the fields to it?
Hi Randy
i set the data source and the fields are added
Even when adding a form from scratch it doesn’t save the changes
Okay, we needed to get the form fixed first.
How did you add the fields? Did you let it do it on its own when you connected it to the datasource, or did you do it manually?
We're not too worried about it not saving changes at the moment as you discovered that nothing was in your collection - so THAT is what we need to focus on before the saving part.
With the change you made to add the form, WHAT is now appearing in the collection? Are you getting valid values?
So, since your formula is dependent on the colUnsaved collection, is it showing ID's for records that are changed?
