Editable Gallery Highlight Issue

Hello,

I have a gallery with an editable grid. I want to set up the TemplateFill so the last submitted record entered via the ADD NEW pop-up form is highlighted, but I want it to be flexible so that any line the user clicks on afterwards is highlighted. Right now, the highlight is pinned to whichever item was last submitted via the form. The Edit icon on the other hand moves freely about as desired. I have attached a document that contains screenshots and all of the formulas I am currently using. If someone could take a look and help me out, I would really appreciate it.

Make the following changes to your OnSuccess action of your form:

Set(HighlightPLRecord, frmNewPLRecord.LastSubmit);
UpdateContext({conNewForm: false});
ResetForm(frmNewPL);
Set(varPlaySpinner, false);
Notify("You have successfully entered a new item.",Success,3000)

On the OnFailure action of the form:

Set(varPlaySpinner, false);
Notify("Your new item failed to submit", Error, 3000)

On the OnSelect of your button:

Set(varPlaySpinner,true);
SubmitForm(frmNewPL)

First, you should move success and failure items out of your submit button.  The form has two actions just for this.

Second, in your original formula you were doing a Lookup on the record from the last submit - you need not do this as the LastSubmit will be the last record.

See if any of this makes a difference in your app.

Thank you for the advice. I inserted the formulas you provided, but the gallery issue is persisting. Could the issue be in any of these formulas?

Gallery TemplateFill:

If(ThisItem.ID = HighlightPLRecord.ID && ThisItem.ID<>EditRecord,LightBlue, White)

Gallery OnSelect:

Set(HighlightPLRecord,ThisItem)

I'm leaning toward your EditRecord variable.  The HighlightPLRecord is being set properly from the form OnSuccess, but I am not sure what you are setting in the EditRecord.

In order for your item to be lightblue, you (as you know) need the ID of the current Gallery item to be the same as the ID from the HighlightPLRecord and NOT the ID of that Item equal to the EditRecord.  

So, to just do a quick test on it, remove the && ThisItem.ID<>EditRecord and see if at least you are getting the new record highlighted.

The OnSelect for the Gallery is fine.

Hi Randy,

The problem isn't having the latest entry highlighted, it is being able to click around and have the highlight follow. I've been working on apps all day, so I'll check out for now and start fresh tomorrow. Have a nice evening.

Based on the configuration that you shared, I believe this has to do with the EditRecord variable that you are using in the condition. Are you setting this to blank once the item update is done? Try removing it from the condition and check if your logic works?

Hello Yashag,

Thank you for the suggestion. When I change the TemplateFill formula to the one seen below, I get this which I think you would agree doesn't look too attractive, plus it doesn't solve the issue. For some reason, the blue highlight still refuses to follow as I click around the list. The pencil icon on the other hand, follows the clicks just fine.

I agree with you that the 2 variables are likely fighting one another, but as you can see from the Save and Cancel icons, I am setting the EditRecord variable back to blank so I'm really scratching my head on this one.

Save icon OnSelect formula (let me know if there is a more efficient way to write this as I don't think we need odata references anymore, but I'm too new at formula writing to be sure...

AH yes...the endless problems that lots of variables cause! Avoid when possible!

What I'm not seeing anywhere - and maybe I'm just missing it, is where you set the EditRecord variable?

Hi Randy,

The variable is set in the OnSelect of the Edit icon. I do not reference the variable in the OnVisible property of the screen.

The Edit, Save and Cancel icons are all operating great. The highlight issue is the only issue at this point.

Here are the variables that are referenced in the OnVisible property of the screen. You can probably guess from the names, but just in case, these are respectively for the Search box, Spinner Screen and the pop-up form where I enter new projects to the list.

So if that is the case and you are setting the HighlightPLRecord on the OnSelect of the Gallery, then your fill formula should be working.

So, my thought is this...what are you clicking on to change to another row in the gallery?  It is possible that you are, for example, clicking on a control in your gallery and the OnSelect of that control is not also doing a Select(Parent)? 

If you have a control in your Gallery that "intercepts" the OnSelect of the Gallery, then the Gallery OnSelect action will never happen.

To test this out.  I would put a Label on the screen and set the Text property to: HighlightPLRecord.ID

Now move around in your Gallery and see if that number is changing as you do.  If so, then we have other stones to turn, if not, then the issue is that the OnSelect of the Gallery is not happening and something you are clicking on in that Gallery is not passing the Select action to the Parent.
