  • have a list called 'StaffWhosin' the 'employee' name is a lookup list from 'StaffNames' i can get a signin date time etc, but the signout againist the name, doesnt work, can you help again.

basixally on the sign out , I would like a dropdown which it gets from the ‘staffwhosin’ list of staff that have already signed in - then pick the name from the dropdown on the ‘sign out’ screen , they would then press ‘sign out’ button , function would then find the record in the ‘staffwhosin’ then put a date and time in the ‘sign out’ column next to the name selected from the dropdown.

can anyone help plesse with code

Check on
_myRecord.SignedIn
SignedIn: true

Put Yes, or whatever it accepts there instead, and see if it works better

e.g.

_myRecord.SignedIn = Yes

SignedIn: Yes

or whatever it prompts you to put there in the autocomplete.

@AndyPowerAppNew If there is still any error, then in formula bar click "Format text" it may help - and check what the error says by hovering over the underlined red text where it occurs first and screenshot what it says.

@poweractivate, that doesnt work either, see error

AndyPowerAppNew_0-1671537615134.png

Also, can we have the dropdown for staff to pick names, or may departments and then buttons, otherwise this way does this mean the staff member will have to type in their name and signin and out, then they would need to type the way to sign out, otherwise it wont regonise the name, which i think be more error? what are your thoughts ? sorry its taking a while, can you write for me?

No they don't have to type anything because it is still recognized the way I gave it.

Also you don't need any prepopulated List anymore, you can delete every record in your List. Keep the List StaffWhosIn with all the columns like you showed it before in the screenshot, but you don't need any records in it, my formula takes care of making the Record for each employee automatically if it is not there now, so leave it with no records there.

You are not using the right formulas, I changed them in recent response and I don't use any variable anymore.

So instead use these formulas below for Sign in and Sign Out

@AndyPowerAppNew

Sign in button OnSelect property:

With
(
	{_myRecord:LookUp(StaffWhosIn,Title=User().Email)}
   ,If
	(
		!IsBlank(_myRecord)
		,If
		(
		   _myRecord.SignedIn
		   ,Notify(_myRecord.Title & " is already signed in - they must sign out first",Error)
		   ,Patch
		   (
			  StaffWhosIn
			 ,{
				  ID: _myRecord.ID
				 ,SignedIn: true
				 ,SignInTimeDate: Now()
			  }
		   )
		)
		,Patch
	     (
		    StaffWhosIn
		   ,{
		  	    Title=User().Email
			   ,SignedIn: true
			   ,SignInTimeDate: Now()
		    }
	     )

	)
)

and then

Sign out button OnSelect property:

With
(
	{_myRecord:LookUp(StaffWhosIn,Title=User().Email )}
   ,If
	(
		!IsBlank(_myRecord)
		,If
		(
		   !_myRecord.SignedIn
		   ,Notify(_myRecord.Employee & " is already signed out - they must sign in first",Error)
		   ,Patch
		   (
			  StaffWhosIn
			 ,{
				  ID: _myRecord.ID
				 ,SignedIn: false
				 ,SignOutTimeDate: Now()
			  }
		   )
		)
		,Notify(User().Email & " does not exist in the table",Error)

	)
)

See if this works better @AndyPowerAppNew

@AndyPowerAppNew

If you have any error check what it is and screen shot it in reply after clicking Format Text.
and also check if
_myRecord.SignedIn
works better if rewritten to

_myRecord.SignedIn = Yes

and

SignedIn: true

to

SignedIn: Yes

and so forth as appropriate, but check the error first to be sure that's really the issue.

 @poweractivate , where does it get the email adrresses for the users from?

this is what my sign staff form looks like: is that right,

AndyPowerAppNew_0-1671538360485.png

Yes

@AndyPowerAppNew You can take out the SigninTimeDate control from that page, and the name control you don't need these controls anymore with my formulas because the user need not spend any time filling those out, so you should take them out since my formulas do not need this information. They don't have to enter it because the app already has that information.

Did you previously Navigate to another screen when you had your previous formulas? If so you need to put a semicolon at the end of my formula, then put Navigate(YourScreen) to wherever you need to be navigating to, does it make sense? For example, navigate to the screen where you already have your sign out button, for now.

With
(
	{_myRecord:LookUp(StaffWhosIn,Title=User().Email)}
   ,If
	(
		!IsBlank(_myRecord)
		,If
		(
		   _myRecord.SignedIn
		   ,Notify(_myRecord.Title & " is already signed in - they must sign out first",Error)
		   ,Patch
		   (
			  StaffWhosIn
			 ,{
				  ID: _myRecord.ID
				 ,SignedIn: true
				 ,SignInTimeDate: Now()
			  }
		   )
		)
		,Patch
	     (
		    StaffWhosIn
		   ,{
		  	    Title=User().Email
			   ,SignedIn: true
			   ,SignInTimeDate: Now()
		    }
	     )

	)
);
Navigate(YourOtherScreen)

Actually I recommend you check if signed in OnVisible of this Sign in Screen, and if already signed in, they are taken to the sign out screen.
OnVisible SignInScreen

With
(
	{_myRecord:LookUp(StaffWhosIn,Title=User().Email)}
   ,If
	(
		!IsBlank(_myRecord)
		,If
		(
		   _myRecord.SignedIn
		   ,Navigate(YourOtherScreen)
		)
	)
)

The above is optional and you can do this later, focus on making the Sign in button to work first. The Sign in button should create an entry in the SharePoint List as well if it's not there with signedin Yes, and if it is there it should modify the sign in date/time in SharePoint List and change the status to Yes.

@AndyPowerAppNew If you renamed Title to Name in SP List then you should refresh the data source

poweractivate_0-1671539010492.png

and then use Name in the formula where I used Title in the formula bar on all formulas
