Hello,
I have several dropdowns that I am trying to send to SQL, but I keep getting an error when selecting my dropdown.
I should mention that each of my dropdowns is filtered to only show non-blanks using this formula:
Filter(Sort(Distinct('SafetyLink Variables', 'Company'), Result), !IsBlank(Result))
Can somebody please help me identify the correct syntax for these dropdowns?
Solved! Go to Solution.
First, you should always be specifying the property of the control you want to use. Your first formula did not seem to do that, but your second formula image shows that you are. (i.e. Selected.Company)
However, for your dropdown, you are using a Distinct function for the items. Distinct returns a Table with a single column called Result. So, that is the ONLY column that will be available to you.
ex. EntryField_Location.Selected.Result
I hope this is helpful for you.
Ah very good. Then my suggestion would be to move up to the GroupBy function instead of making multiple calls to the data source.
So, on the EntryField_Description_Hazard dropdown, set the Items property to:
GroupBy('SafetyLink Variables',
"Please select the Hazard that best fits",
"_records"
)
Then for the other dropdown, set the Items property to:
EntryField_Description_Hazard.Selected._records
Display the Hazard Action column in the dropdown.
This is highly more efficient and will reduce maintenance on your app as there is only one formula to maintain.

You did it! That was easy. Thank you so much, and thanks for the explanation as well.
Hey I wonder if you wouldn't mind helping me with another; the dropdown Items is populated with this:
Filter('SafetyLink Variables', 'Please select the Hazard that best fits'=EntryField_Description_Hazard.Selected.Result).'Hazard Action'
I've tried
Hazard_Action: EntryField_Action_Hazard.Selected
Hazard_Action: EntryField_Action_Hazard.SelectedText
Hazard_Action: EntryField_Action_Hazard.Text
Hazard_Action: EntryField_Action_Hazard.Category
Hazard_Action: EntryField_Action_Hazard.Selected.Result
etc. Any thoughts?
What is the Items property of EntryField_Description_Hazard ?
Distinct('SafetyLink Variables'.'Please select the Hazard that best fits','Please select the Hazard that best fits')
So again, the ONLY column that will be available is Result.
You might want to tighten up your syntax on the Items property to:
Distinct('SafetyLink Variables', 'Please select the Hazard that best fits')
Makes it easier to read and maintain. Putting the column name at the end of the datasource makes no difference in this case.
I am a little confused though not knowing your data....are you doing the distinct because there are potentially multiple duplicate values for 'Please select the Hazard that best fits' ?
And, your intention then, in the dropdown, is to show all of those records that match the distinct and to show the Hazard Action column values of those records in the list?
You are correct, this is an example from both columns:
Please select the Hazard that best fits --- Hazard Action
Barrier / Tape / Tags --- Replaced / Adjusted Fencing
Barrier / Tape / Tags --- Replaced Chain
Barrier / Tape / Tags --- Replaced Inadequate Tags
Barrier / Tape / Tags --- Replaced Pylon / Jersey Barrier
Barrier / Tape / Tags --- Taped Off Area (Work Ongoing)
Damaged Equipment --- Adjusted Equipment for Safety
Damaged Equipment --- Cord on Equipment
Damaged Equipment --- Damaged Scaffold
Damaged Equipment --- Damaged Sling
Damaged Equipment --- Drained Water from Oiler
Damaged Equipment --- Equipment Expired
Ah very good. Then my suggestion would be to move up to the GroupBy function instead of making multiple calls to the data source.
So, on the EntryField_Description_Hazard dropdown, set the Items property to:
GroupBy('SafetyLink Variables',
"Please select the Hazard that best fits",
"_records"
)

EntryField_Description_Hazard.Selected._records
Display the Hazard Action column in the dropdown.
This is highly more efficient and will reduce maintenance on your app as there is only one formula to maintain.
Sorry it took so long to respond.. Something about your first formula isn't working.. It's suggesting it can't find the column.
