Gallery View Show/Hide Column

I am looking for a solution (other than having 2 galleries) that would show/hide gallery column(s) based on a button.

I have a SP list that would be Initial Budget / Approved Budget, but I do not want to show both at the same time.

I would have a button that would set variables and toggle the Show/hide state of the columns, but I cannot seem to figure out if galleries columns can be shown/hidden, or if I can make them dynamic based on what data from my SP list to display.

Right now I can see how this can be a accomplished using 2 different galleries but that would require maintaining 2 different galleries.

Maybe I am thinking about this in the wrong way.

You can achieve this by following methods in following scenarios,

Case 1: You would like to have a toggle button that switches fields/columns in your gallery.

Create a button and add basic toggle code.

UpdateContext({ varToggle: !varToggle })

For columns, Select the columns you would like to show and hide based on toggle value.

Set those Fields/Controls 'Visible' property to variable "varToggle".

Case 2: As you mentioned, if I can make them dynamic based on what data from my SP list to display.

For this, if you have specific data to compare and then show whether the Field/Control/Column in your gallery then set the 'Visible' property based on that condition.

//For Example, say I want to show the Amount Control/Field if Amount within Record is greater than 0.

If(ThisItem.Amount > 0, true, false)

you can create your own conditions.

You will (depending on the number of columns you are dealing with) find that having 2 galleries will be much less work than trying to switch items around in the Gallery template.

If you have a small number of columns that you are working with, then I would suggest using a Checkbox control as a button (yes, they can be made to look like a button).  Then in your gallery, simply set the visible properties of the controls that represent certain columns based on that checkbox.

So, for example, if your checkbox control is called chkGal1 then for controls that should appear from gallery 1 types, set the Visible to chkGal1.Value

There is not need for If and redundant true false statements as the above is already a true or false value.

@RandyHayes yes. that is my issue.  I have a full gallery with 5 or 6 columns and I want to basically swap either Initial Budget or Approved Budget.  But, the more I think about it I would need to be working with visibility and have over lapping Column headers, Sorts, etc.  

Not sure there is a clean way of doing this, so I need to pick the lessor or two ways.

Yes, like I mentioned, having the two galleries is not such a bad things if there is a lot of logic and controls that would have to go into place to swap between them.

Ideally, you can "genericize" your gallery controls and then dictate values at the Items level.

For example, if you designed your gallery and let's say you have field 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the Gallery.

Then, you can swap at the Items level with the checkbox that I mentioned previously.

First off, you *never* want to have a gallery with Items from two different datasources.  This is not something that PowerApps supports because they are two different schemas.  However, if you "level" the schema between the two, then is works just fine.

So for example, this Items property:

ForAll(
    If(yourCheckBox.Value,
         DataSource1,
         DataSource2
    ),
    {Field1: Title,
     Field2: CompanyName,
     Field3: Address1,
     Field4: EmailAddress
    }
)

With the above, your Gallery controls would all remain standard and not need to do anything with Visible or location in the gallery, etc.  Just set them up to reflect the underlying column value, ex: ThisItem.Field1

@RandyHayes Yes, I follow that logic and it is a smart way to approach things, but in my case it won't work.  It is really just one field or the other.  The other problem is yes, there is some complex logic used for 'Searches' and 'Sorting' that would make it harder to maintain things in two galleries.

As per my understanding you have one SharePoint list.  Where you want to show either initial budget or approved budget based on the button selection. in that case you keep all the columns in the same gallery and adjust their x and width positions dynamically . set one variable on the button onselect like set(varshow,!varshow).

in visible property of the column initial budget as varshow and for approved budget as !varshow.

when varshow is true initial budget column will be shown and approved budget column will be in hide.
