I'm creating a Custom Page.
I have a gallery that pulls related data from the selected item in another gallery. To anonymize my customer's data we'll go with gallery1 as the table, and gallery2 as the 'related data' gallery.
When i set the Items in gallery2 to:
gallery1.Selected.'related data'
All of my data comes through fine.
When i set the Items in gallery2 to:
If ( radiobutton.Selected.Value = "published", gallery1.Selected.'related data' )
All of my data comes through fine.
When i set the Items in gallery2 to:
If( radiobutton.Selected.Value = "published", Filter(gallery1.Selected.'related data', publishStatus = 1234567890 ) )
But, when i set the Items in gallery2 to:
If ( radiobutton.Selected.Value = "published",
Filter(gallery1.Selected.'related data', publishStatus = 1234567890),
radiobutton.Selected.Value = "archived",
Filter(gallery1.Selected.'related data', publishStatus = 0987654321 )
)
Suddenly my data shows Nothing.
Somehow, going from an If with no defaults and only one option, to an If with multiple options, all the data just... goes null.
I've tried a Switch statement as well, and it's the same behavior. Works fine with one, won't work with multiple options.
I even tried switching to a Combobox (becuase apparently Dropdowns are not yet available in Custom Pages). The same thing happened. As soon as my If or Switch statement had multiple options the data just went blank.
What am i missing?
Hi @datapawn ,
Try this
Filter(
gallery1.Selected.'related data',
(
radiobutton.Selected.Value = "published" &&
publishStatus = 1234567890
) ||
(
radiobutton.Selected.Value = "archived" &&
publishStatus = 0987654321
)
)

Much appreciated, @WarrenBelz - i attempted to port this over to my actual code, but the problem is: I can't seem to get it to recognize the 'publishStatus = 1234567890' part. When i hover the red squiggles it just says "isn't recognized." I think because "publishStatus" is a field on the related data.
I tried retyping out the explicit name, like:
gallery1.Selected.'publishStatus' = '1234567890'
Then like this:
ThisItem.Selected.'publishStatus' = '1234567890'
ThisItem wouldn't even highlight the way it typically does. And referencing the gallery that i'm filtering the Items for also didn't seem to take.
(i hope i'm understanding that part right - i'm not sure i fully grasp how the whole "one gallery is the table, you select something in it, then the other gallery is related data from what's selected in the first table." I mean, i get how it's operating, i'm just not sure i fully understand the design paradigm.)
I do really appreciate this, and i'm interested most in why it seems to work right up until i have multiple options in an If() or Switch(). Again, wild cards here include: it's a Custom Page, not a full Canvas App, and it's pulling the data through the ModelDrivenFormIntegration. So i'm kind of rolling up whole Katamari Damacy ball of features only just released in this little project.
I did solve the problem another way: I just replaced Items with a variable. Then i built 3 buttons that just UpdateContext with the filtered data when you click on them. It's a little clunky because you have to click a "load all" button first, otherwise the gallery is just empty, but it'll get us through prototyping just fine.
I was simply copying the structure of the code you posted. If that code worked, then what I posted should also. I am also assuming here that 'related data" is a table field within your gallery.
There's a N:N relationship between what i display in gallery1 and gallery2.
So i created gallery1 so that gallery2 could show the related data. When i click on gallery1, gallery2 populates with a table of stuff.
What i need is to Filter that data/table based on what radio button/dropdown is present.
So I did manage to make that work by just having the Filter() statement be within a variable, and setting gallery2 Items to that variable. So when i click a button it changes the statement to be Filter(published stuff) or Filter(archived stuff) or just the related data unfiltered.
I'm not sure if i'm giving good feedback here.
Sorry totally confused particularly now you have mentioned N:N. I also cannot currently visualise what you are doing, particularly what 'related data' is and how it is constructed.
Apologies - i'm struggling to articulate without breaking any NDAs.
gallery1 has "songbooks" and gallery2 shows "songs" from whatever songbook is highlighted in gallery1 - that's the N:N relationship.
What i need is a way to filter what songs show up in gallery2.
My plan was to create a Switch() statement that loads the data in gallery2 depending on a dropdown that i just added to the page. I just hard-coded the values in that dropdown.
The second problem might be that gallery1 is also filtered to match the record they are looking at in the model-driven app this Custom Page is on, using ModelDrivenFormIntegration. I don't think that should affect it, though. It just means gallery1 only shows one songbook - it's the one you're looking at when you click on it in the model-driven app.
My first problem that came up was that Custom Pages don't support dropdowns (it's a limited feature set from Canvas Apps). I tried at first with a combobox, and when the data dropped after adding a Switch() i thought it was something about combobox that i didn't understand, so i changed that control to a Radio Button with the same hard-coded list.
My _guess_ here is, and i'm very new to this, that the code you posted relies on the radiobutton.Selected.Value being a record on the same table. But i just created the radio button from scratch and threw it on the app.
That's why i thought it would work to simply have Items be:
Switch( "check the radio button" and "load this data with the corresponding Filter() on it" ) - to type it up in plain language.
I hope i'm clarifying here. I know it's a bit of a muddy plan.
I think that this is not that different from trying to add a related sub-grid to the model-driven app; i just wanted to be able to modify the colors/layout/information for visual representation, and i wanted to remove default buttons that would allow the user to mess up the data.
