Hello,
I have a form with 2 text inputs and a Button
1. Created a collection to point to a library in sharepoint as datasource
2. At run time , users enters the value of a column on Text Input 1 , and selects the button , upon selecting the button the text input value should be populated from the sharepoint column 2 .
3. OnSelect function on the button is giving me an error , not sure where the issue is , how to fix the syntax. Any help on this appreciated.
In this case ProductType is user enters in textinput1 and DocumentType would populate on textinput2 upon button select.
UpdateContext({DocumentTypeVar:First(Filter(Collection1,ProductType=Value(TextInput1.Text,"es-ES"))).DocumentType})
Error : Expected Operator. We expect an operator such as + , . or &
Try changing your formula to the following:
UpdateContext(
{DocumentTypeVar:
Lookup(Collection1,
ProductType = Value(TextInput1.Text,"es-ES"),
DocumentType
)
}
)
This is assuming that ProductType is a numeric column.
Also, if the use of the context variable is just to have it appear in the other TextBox, you can consider removing all of this and just setting the Default property of the TextBox to:
Lookup(Collection1,
ProductType = Value(TextInput1.Text,"es-ES"),
DocumentType
)
I hope this is helpful for you.
Hi Randy,
Thanks for your help . I tried changing the function as you suggested on my button OnSelect property but still i am running into errors of 'invalid Arguments on value') .
UpdateContext( {DocumentTypeVar: Lookup(Collection1, ProductType = Value(TextInput1.Text,"es-ES"), DocumentType ) } )
The function 'Value' has invalid arguements.
Just to note the ProductType is a string i am passing as 'Loan' and DocumentType is a string too . Both these columns on sharepoint library are drop down columns. Looks like 'es-ES' the language conversion is not relevent ?
Please suggest on the right syntax to use.
Thanks
Ah, now were seeing the forest..
If ProductType is a string, then there is no need for the Value function at all.
However, please explain more about the ProductType column - you say it is a DropDown. Does this mean that in your list it is defined as a Choice column, or some other type of column - what type is it in the list?
Hi Randy,
ProductType is a ChoiceType Field in the Sharepoint library not List.
eg('Loan', 'Lease'...)
If we don't need to have value , what would be the right function to use.
Thanks
Okay, completely different type of column then. We have to consider that ProductType is a list of records. Even if only one is selected, then it is a list with one record. So we have to treat it like that.
Change the Default property of your textbox to:
Lookup(Collection1,
TextInput1.Text in ProductType.Value,
DocumentType
)
Not knowing the structure of your data, I am going to say you might run into issues with this concept. If the ProductType is a Choice column, then I am assuming there can be other records in the list that have the same product type. Therefore, the question is, which one do you want to get? With the above Lookup, you will get the first.
Hi Randy,
Sorry for the delay on responding.
By using this code OnSelect Button i was able to clear the errors. But the result is not working as i am expecting.
UpdateContext({DocumentTypeVar:LookUp(collect1,ProductType.value=TextInput1.Text,DocumentType)})
Basically my form has 2 text input fields and a button , initially i want to test the form with 2 fields of Choice type column ProductType and DocumentType in my datasource (sharepoint library).
1. OnScreen Open i set the Property Visible as
Collect(Collect1,ShowColumns('Document Repository POC',"ProductType","DocumentType"))
I want only 2 columns in my collection (Collect1) at the moment.
2) When i run the app , i enter 'Loan' as the value in TextInput1 field and select the button which should retreive the value of the DocumentType from sharepoint column related to ProductType = Loan onto the TextInput2 field on the form which is not working.
I have set the default text property for TextInput2 = 'DocumentTypeVar'
The code OnSelect button is set to
UpdateContext({DocumentTypeVar:LookUp(collect1,ProductType.value=TextInput1.Text,DocumentType)})
Not sure where i am doing wrong as i am new to PowerApps.
Thanks
So one of the issues is that you are comparing and using record types and string types incorrectly.
Your formula:
UpdateContext(
{DocumentTypeVar:
LookUp(collect1,ProductType.value=TextInput1.Text,DocumentType)
}
)
This is going to assign a record to the DocumentTypeVar - not a string. Why? Because DocumentType is a Choice column and thus has each choice as a record.
So, when you set the Default in Textinput2 to DocumentTypeVar, you are not going to get what you expect - in fact, you should be getting an error. BUT, in looking at your screen shot - I would say you have the Default property on Textinput2 set to "DocumentTypeVar" and not DocumentTypeVar (notice the quotes).
Let's do this...
1) Leave your OnVisible action as is for the moment.
2) Change the Default property on TextInput2 to the following:
First(LookUp(collect1, ProductType.Value=TextInput1.Text, DocumentType)).Value
This should give you the results you want (skip trying to use a variable, unless you really need it somewhere else).
Now...this now working, I still believe you will have some issues with matching correct values from your list - BUT, I don't know your data, so if so, we can explore more from there.
Thanks Randy.
I tried to add the code to the TextInput2 default property as you suggested
The function is adding quotes to read as string and not working
"First(LookUp(collect1, ProductType.Value=TextInput1.Text, DocumentType)).Value"
I am inputting a value on TextInput 1 = Loan and no change in text input 2 field as i am expecting.
Thanks
