Power Apps is a Bug

Is there any program other than Power Apps that can be used to create input forms for SPO lists and libraries? Power Apps is useless as it is now. I cannot even move a field where I need it in the fields list. Of course I suppose I could remove everything from the form and recreate it from scratch, but that would be a bit ridiculous. However, that is exactly what I have to do. Fields cannot be dragged up and down the field list reliably. Sometimes it works, some times not, and other times it will move it in the opposite direction from what you need, and using the ellipse and clicking move up or move down is just as reliable. I just spent the last 2 hours trying to coax a field to move up the list of fields. Dragging and using the ellipse to move it up (or down) does not work. Moving the fields above it down does not work either.

PowerApps is the best tool to use!

Moving fields in a form is working fine.  I would suggest you turn off the snap to columns option so that it does not re-layout your fields as you move them.

If you have altered the widths of your datacards and the snap to columns option is on and you try to move them, then the designer will try to "fit" them in to the defined columns of the form.

So, in addition to turning off the snap to columns, also set your columns to 12 (max) to give the most flexibility.

I hope this is helpful for you.

Hello, @Shargett

You can also alter the X and Y properties values in the Advanced settings of your Data Cards control in the Form to align them as you wish.

Note:

X=0 & Y=0 >> First Row and First Column

X=0 & Y=1 >> First Row and Second Column etc..

It is off. All I want to do is arrange the fields in the order my customer needs. However, When I drag a field up or down, it may or may not move. Further, it may or may not move, and also may move another field that was previously placed. If the untouched field is below where I am in the list it is not a problem, because I haven't gotten that far, but say I am moving field 84 to the 82 position, then it may instead go to the 23rd place, which in turn can and many times has jumbled the fields below the 23rd spot. Then I have to start arranging at the 24th field. Then sometimes a field refuses to move up or down, so I have to drag the field above it or below it to force the field where it needs to be. I have remedied some of this, but not the majority, by loading the Power Apps form, making a single change, then saving, publishing, and exiting back to SharePoint. Then I can Start again only changing a single thing before once again saving publishing and going back to SharePoint. You can imagine how frustrating this is.

I cannot believe that Microsoft would or could deploy a product this broken, so I assume that it must be something on my end. This machine only has 16Gb, could this be a memory (or lack thereof) issue?

@Shargett

Memory is not your issue in this case.  However, it sounds like the size of your form is a contributing factor.  Whenever you move fields in your form, the designer has to reprocess all the rendering code that will display the fields in the form.  This can take some processing time if it is very large.

In general what you are doing is not broken.  It, again, sounds like it is something that is exacerbated by the form size you have.

My suggestions would be this:

1) Move your field and provide the designer some time to "re-render" in the background.  In other words, move a field and then let it sit for a little bit.  Then go for the next one.

2) Consider reducing the size of the rendered form by splitting the form (there is a very specific way to do with without breaking the form - click on the PowerApps video links in my signature line below and there is one there)

3) Consider using your own interface for the form.  This is a little more intensive than perhaps you want, but it is an option if not only a) the moving of fields is problematic for your but also b) the layout you are getting from the standard form is not meeting your needs.

@Shargett

I didn't encounter any of the issues you described in Power Apps.

You can try to start with a new app, try with a new Form and have less fields in each Form. You can even have multiple Forms for multiple steps, even for the same Record if needed.

If you don't like the way Form arranges the Controls, try those suggestions from @RandyHayes

If you don't want those suggestions, just use a Control individually for each field without them being in a Form at all, and use Patch function for the OnSelect property of a button to take each field and put it in the data source as either a new Record, or to edit an existing one.

This is more complex, and not usually recommended, but you have the total freedom to position each field the way you want.

Since it is not usually recommended, I won't go in-depth for now how you would do this without using a Form.

In general, I would keep the advice already given by @RandyHayes if it works for you.

See if it helps @Shargett
