Hello guys,
I am facing a strange issue in Power Apps Component.
I have created one simple rating component in PowerApps to capture ratings for my app but when I am using in card component the app becomes blank and doesn't work. I don't know if I am doing anything wrong or something.
My component is quite simple
I have two custom property one for inserting gallery or rating items and the other to fetch the selected button output.
My Component Picture
When I add form and add component to my first card it works properly but
when I add the same component into another card then the screen becomes blank like this
Let me know guys if you can help me or give any suggestions to do this in a better way.
My main motive is to use the same component for more than 50 columns.
Solved! Go to Solution.
It's adaptable to that...
Components in the Datacards works!
Let's look at some of your component properties - how are they defined?
Thanks @RandyHayes ,
I have used two properties one is rating items to fill gallery items from outside its input property of my component and the other one is output property to get the selected record.
Let me know if you need any other information.
Here is the git repo for your reference - RatingComponent Solution
Okay...I got a chance to look at your scenario. It seems the items in the Gallery in the component are an issue in a form! This does not surprise me as Galleries in forms have a long known bug on them, so a component with a Gallery causing massive issues is not a surprise.
I was able to duplicate your problem when I used the component you had. I was able to reduplicate it when I started from scratch and basically built the same thing.
Now - I initially answered you that it works fine. The reason I did is because the component I had checked had a Rating control in it - NOT a gallery. That worked perfectly fine!
I even reproduced that it was fine by removing the Gallery and putting a Rating control in. I changed the RatingItems property on your component to be a numeric input property. The Rating Control in the component Max property was set to Parent.RatingItems and I set the RatingItems property to a default of 5.
I changed the Output property to RatingControl.Value
I also added another number property called Default and set the Default property of the RatingControl to Parent.Default. I set the Default default value to 2.
Now, back to the Form - I added the component to each datacard. I also added a label in the datacard to reflect the SelectedRating value of the component...and all worked perfectly!
So...this is seeming to be the curse of the Gallery in a Form that is the issue. I would submit it as a support request. The response will most likely be the warning not to use Galleries in a Form, but, in my opinion - it's still a bug that should work!
Thank you so much @RandyHayes for your swift response to my question.
I am unaware of the usage of the gallery inside form control. But my main motive is to create feedback control with a button mechanism so users just need to click the button and the rating will be updated but I think I need to spend some more time to find an alternative as the gallery control is causing the problem
Yes, galleries in the form have been notorious offenders. That is my only guess in this case because as I used any component with a gallery in the form, it experienced the issue you saw.
What I mentioned of using the Rating control is a good workaround in your case as it provides what you are looking for - user clicks on a rating and that is your value.
However, another option is to use the workaround that I often use when I need a Gallery in the form to work a certain way (which it will not in the form), which is to put the control outside of the form and overlay it on the form. To the user they know no different, and it will then work perfectly fine.
Thanks again @RandyHayes ,
Didn't get much about your other option but I will try to make the same functionality with a direct button option lets see
But don't know how to get the selected state for the direct button.
Yeah, that's too complex when there are simpler options. Buttons are not what you need.
First, if 5 is the maximum number of rating options you will have, then the point of the Table input on the component was pretty much not needed.
I would use the Rating control in the component and make it simple.
Now, if it is the Stars and the way that it looks, then just make that transparent and put under it what you want.
It would look like this - still using a component and the Rating control.
I've attached an example app that has this component and this screen in it.
Take a look - it is *super* simple!!
Thanks @RandyHayes for quite simpler version for my complex situation but I think this will not help as I have different rating number
Like - 1, 2, 5, 9, 10
It's adaptable to that...
