Prevent Gallery from being filtered when submitting an item

I have a very basic app built using the basic Gallery View on one screen and a detailed view on the next screen.

I also built a few filters for this gallery at the top that filters the gallery when I change the values in the combobox. One filter is there by default that only shows "Active" items.

Now, I click on an item in the gallery, it pulls in into the detailed view using:

Navigate(EditScreen1, ScreenTransition.Cover,{selectedId: Gallery1.Selected.ID});

If I then change the status for this item to "Closed" and save the form, the form pulls the next item from the Gallery because the item is no longer "Active" so it's no longer the one that's Selected.

This happens because I don't want to close the form when saving. I need to leave the form open after saving.

How do I prevent the gallery from filtering until I navigate back to the Gallery view?

Update: This actually happens if I select the second item in the Gallery. Upon saving the form with the Submit(EditForm1); the gallery resets the selection to the first item and pulls another item in the list instead of staying at the one I just saved.

Don't work from the Selected record!

Change your OnSelect action formula to:

Set(glbCurrentRecord, ThisItem);
Navigate(EditScreen1, ScreenTransition.Cover);

Then change your Form Item property to: glbCurrentRecord.

Ah. I have about 5 apps I built using the default Gallery.Selected method. Never had an issue because I was always closing the form upon saving.

Yes, always be cautious with using the selected gallery item.  It works well, but not in every scenario.

If you have any action that will impact the formula of the Items of the gallery, PowerApps will re-evaluate the formula.

If your Items is a simple datasource/filter, then the selected item will remain.  If it has any complexity - sorting, shaping, etc. - it will re-evaluate and the selection will revert to the first record.

You can also use the Default property of the gallery to "default" a record.  This works great except it has a visual glitch to it (the record will remain selected, but the list will jump to have the selected item at the top - in other words, the scroll will change.)

@RandyHayes. I found another issue with this.
This doesn't work on New Items. If I start a new Item and save it, the form jumps to the first gallery item again instead of staying at the item I just created. I know I have to do something with EditForm1.LastSubmit and I tried to follow this advice but I don't have the SharepointIntegration control. Any pointers?

I agree with staying away from variables. It becomes difficult to remember every scenario when that variable needs to be reset, changed, or updated but alas, it's impossible to not use them in some cases. I find the "Variables" view extremely useful.
