Problem Selecting the Value of Combo Boxes

I have a form in my app (which is connected to a SharePoint data source), which has different sections for the user to fill out. Each section is comprised of Cards witch contain either combo boxes, rich text editors, or text input boxes. I'm attempting to add some functionality to the form which would allow users to create a copy of the form(certain fields won't be copied). 

My problem starts with the code I'm using to extract the value of these combo boxes.

Patch(
    'MyTable',
    Defaults('MyTable'),
    {
        'Title': DataCardValue205_1.Text
    },
    {
        'Department Number': cmbDept //Not sure on the syntax
    }
)

In this example, cmbDept is a combo box and I want to make sure it retains its current value when the form is copied as a new entry in my table. I've tried using 

cmbDept.Selected.Value

but I'm just getting an error that reads "Name isn't valid. 'Value' isn't recognized".

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi @cwolfe01 , What is the Items property of combo box? And what suggestion the intelligence gives you when you put dot (.) after cmbDept.Selected?

I see the following suggestions after I enter cmbDept.Selected

• Selected
• SelectedItems

When I use SelectedItems, PowerApps gives me the error "This type of argument does not match the expected type 'Text'. Found type 'Table'".

When I use Selected, PowerApps gives me the error "This type of argument does not match the expected type 'Text'. Found 'Record'".

for patch:

)

try this please:

    {
        'Title': DataCardValue205_1.Text,
        'Department Number': cmbDept.Selected.Name // Assuming 'Name' is the field you need
    }
)

Handle Null Selections: If it's possible for the combo box to have no selection, you should add error handling to avoid runtime errors. For example:

Patch(
    'MyTable',
    Defaults('MyTable'),
    {
        'Title': DataCardValue205_1.Text,
        'Department Number': If(IsBlank(cmbDept.Selected), "", cmbDept.Selected.Name)
    }
)

I'm not sure this is working either. I'm using

Patch(
    'MyTable',
    Defaults('MyTable'),
    {
        'Title': DataCardValue205_1.Text,
        'Department Number': cmbDept.Selected.DeptValue 
    }
)

, but when I hover over this line, I see

cmbDept.Selected.DeptValue = Blank

when I expect to see

cmbDept.Selected.DeptValue = 000000 - Example (000)

UpdateContext({selectedDeptValue: cmbDept.Selected.DeptValue})

It seems that any property after 

cmbDept.Selected

 is returning a blank value. 

As previously stated, this line has an expected type of Text. So I've attempted to use the .Text property, but this results in a similar error where the found type is "Error". SearchText doesn't return anything, but I know this method is depreciated.

Hi @cwolfe01 , Can you share the screenshot of this or help with the primary text property of layout:

So, in above screenshot, it is DisplayName, so if i have to use this combo box for patch, I will use this code: 

ColumneName: Combobox.Selected.DisplayName

In your case make sure that you have proper filed is selected in Primary Text and then whatever you have added in Primary Text, then that you need to use in code.

    'MyTable',
    Defaults('MyTable'),
    {
        'Title': DataCardValue205_1.Text,
        'Department Number': comboboxname.Selected.FieldNameThatYouSeeInLayoutPrimaryText
    }
)
