Hello,
I'm trying to achieve that when status is changed it will record the date to its corresponding date field. For example, when Status is on Admin Initial Review, the Initial Review Date will record the date of that status change - like a time stamp.
My problem: I don't know how to keep the recorded date for the status. It just keeps updating to today's date. How do I stop it from updating?
This is what I currently have on my Power App on the Date field:
Default Date: If(Status.Value = "Admin Initial Review", Today(), Today())
Thank you!
Your If formula is always going to return Today() as the date!
You need to simply compare the value to the underlying record.
So for example, on your Initial Review Date datePicker control, set the Default date to:
If(YourAdminInitialReviewStatusControl.Selected.Value=ThisItem.AdminInitialReviewStatus,
Parent.Default,
Today()
)
In this case you are checking to see if there is a change...if so, then use Today(), otherwise use the record value.
I hope this is helpful for you.
@RandyHayes - thank you for your quick response!
I'm getting the error icon on the Initial Review Date field. This is what I have:
DefaultDate: If(DataCardValue2.Selected.Value = ThisItem.AdminInitalReview, Parent.Default, Today())
DataCardValue2 is the Status field
What is the error and what kind of column is AdminInitialReview in your list?
If it is a Choice column type, then change the formula to:
If(DataCardValue2.Selected.Value = ThisItem.AdminInitalReview.Value, Parent.Default, Today())
It is a Choice field and the error is:
This is what I have: If(DataCardValue2.Selected.Value = ThisItem.AdminInitialReview.Value, Parent.Default, Today())
Should I change it to: If(DataCardValue2.Selected.Value = "Admin Initial Review", Parent.Default, Today())
Do you have spaces in your column name? If so, then yes, surround the name with single quotes (not double).
i.e.
If(DataCardValue2.Selected.Value = 'Admin Initial Review'.Value, Parent.Default, Today())
And, you'll need to have the .Value on the end of the column name as it is a choice column and will be a record...so you need to reference the column of the record to compare, which would be Value.
Unfortunately, still no luck - still getting the same error.
Also, in this last part Parent.Default, Today()), I want the date to stay when the Status is changed. For example, if the date when I change to Admin Initial Review is 7/3/2022, I want that date to not update to any other date when it goes to the next Status like Pending Employee Approval.
Appreciate your help!
Sorry, forgot the ThisItem (to reference the record of the form).
If(DataCardValue2.Selected.Value = ThisItem.'Admin Initial Review'.Value, Parent.Default, Today())
If that does not work, then when you type in "ThisItem" and then hit the period, you should see the list of column names, select the one that is your status column.
As for the logic - it sounds more like now that you are trying to capture the prior status change date when it moves to the next.
It sounds like you are saying that you want to capture the date that a status is set. If I am hearing (reading) this correctly, you have a column with a date for each status value of your choice column.
If that is all the case, then my question would be...if someone sets the status to Pending Employee Approval and then another time sets it to Admin Initial Review (let's just say)...if someone then sets it BACK to Pending Employee Approval, should the date now reflect the new change date or the old?
Sorry, I think I confused you. I'm trying to say that if the Status column has Admin Initial Review value then add the date on the Initial Review Date column. If the status value is not Admin Initial Review then no change (no update).
Yes, you are correct. There is a date field corresponding to each status change. If for some reason they go back to the status from the previous step then they can just change it manually.
Yep, a little confused on it. But following what you are stating now.
So what you need to do is check the value of the status (to see if it changed) and then reflect that with the date.
If(Status.Value = "Admin Initial Review" && !(Status.Value = ThisItem.'Admin Initial Review'.Value), Today(), Parent.Default)
What this will do is that, if the status dropdown is set to "Admin Initial Review" AND the selected value is NOT what was in the record initially (ThisItem), THEN set return Today(), otherwise return the Parent Default (which should be just the underlying column value). If it is a date, then it will be there, if it is blank, then there will be no date for it.
