Submit form and gallery

i have a powerapps form that also has a gallery.  some of the fields in the form are also in the gallery as i am collecting additional info.

My question is this....  I want to submit the form and gallery, but im not sure how.... i have a submit button that used to have this code.  Works....

SubmitForm(Form1)

after i added gallery (one checkbox that allows the user to select multiple classes).  I created a collection that takes the one checkbox choices (total 5) and add some of the form fields so that it would create multiple records in the SP list.  Works...  So im wondering, is it simply just adding the to codes together like this on the button will submit the everything?  Do i only need to submit the collection (this actually makes sense to me although im not sure how to submit a collection.

Collect("Orientation Requests', SelectedClasses);

SubmitForm(Form1)

i am wondering do i need to update or use a forall.... i just dont know....

Hi @cnorris135 ,

Try below on the submit button:

ForAll(
    SelectedClasses,
    Patch(
        'Orientation Requests',
        Defaults('Orientation Requests'),
        {
            ProjectCoordinator_x0028_PC_x002:ProjectCoordinatorEmail,
            PCWorkPhone:PCWorkPhone,
            PCCostCenterName:PCCostCenter,
            ContractorCompanyName:ContractorCompany,
            Contractor_x0020_Type:{Value:CompanyType},
            OrientationRequestDate:RequestDate,
            EstimatedContractorsCount:Value(EstimatedContractorCount),
            ContractorName:Concatenate(FirstName," ",LastName),
            Comments:BriefDescription,
            WorkLocation:WorkLocation_DataCardValue.Selected.Value,
            Training_x0020_Module: {
               '@odata.type':"#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedReference",
               Id:ThisRecord.ClassChoices.ID,
               Value:ThisRecord.ClassChoices.'Classes v2'
            }
        }
    )
)

This why I not recommend to collect all fields into a collection then submit. The simpler way, although need to re-code the formulas of collection and submit, I would show them for you to refer to.

Collection:

Collect(
    SelectedClasses,
    ThisItem
)

Submit:

ForAll(
    SelectedClasses,
    Patch(
        'Orientation Requests',
        Defaults('Orientation Requests'),
        {
            ProjectCoordinator_x0028_PC_x002: DataCardValue1.Text,
            PCWorkPhone: PCWorkPhone_DataCardValue.Text,
            PCCostCenterName: PCCostCenterName_DataCardValue.Text,
            ContractorCompanyName: ContractorCompanyName_DataCardValue.SelectedText.Value,
            Contractor_x0020_Type: ContractorType_DataCardValue.Selected.Value,
            OrientationRequestDate: OrientationRequestDate_DataCardValue.SelectedDate,
            EstimatedContractorsCount: EstimatedContractorsCount_DataCardValue.Text,
            ContractorName: Concatenate(DataCardValue2.Text," ",DataCardValue3.Text),
            Comments: Comments_DataCardValue.Text,
            WorkLocation: WorkLocation_DataCardValue.Selected.Value,
            Training_x0020_Module: {
               '@odata.type':"#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedReference",
               Id:ThisRecord.ID,
               Value:ThisRecord.'Classes v2'
            }
        }
    )
)

Hi @cnorris135 ,

Could you please share more details about your scenario? What are the items in that Gallery? If I understand correctly, do you want to submit the collection to the same list as the form?

If simply talking about submitting a collection to SP list, you could leverage the Patch and ForAll functions, syntax basically looks like below, assuming that columns in the collection with column names the same as list and required columns (such as Title) are included:

ForAll(collection, Patch(SPlist, Defaults(SPlist), ThisRecord)

or you could patch some columns in the collection but required columns still need to be included:

ForAll(collection, Patch(SPlist, Defaults(SPlist), {Title:ThisRecord.Name, Column2: ThisRecord.ColumnName}))

You could combine submitform with above formula together on the button to achieve need.

But I'm confused that would you like to submit the form to the list to create a new item, then submitting collection to the list to create multiple items?

Hi

i came up with this code:

ForAll(

    SelectedClasses,

    Patch(

        'Orientation Requests',

        Defaults('Orientation Requests'),

        {

            ProjectCoordinator_x0028_PC_x002: ProjectCoordinator,

            PCWorkPhone: PCWorkPhone,

            PCCostCenterName: PCCostCenter,

            ContractorCompanyName: ContractorCompany,

            OrientationRequestDate: RequestDate,

            Contractor_x0020_Type: {Value:CompanyType},

            EstimatedContractorsCount: Value(EstimatedContractorCount),

            ContractorName: Concatenate(FirstName," ",LastName),

            Comments: BriefDescription

            WorkLocation: {Value:WorkLocation},

            Training_x0020_Module: Value(ClassChoices)

        }

))

but i get two errors...

1.) the Training Module throws a "..... does not match the expected type Record.  Found type Number.  The training module is the gallery checkbox field.

2.) the WorkLocation field throws a "..... does not match the expected type Table.  Found type Record.  It is a choice field in the sharepoint list.

been driving me crazy for two days now.

Hi @cnorris135 ,

I still could not understand your scenario well. Could you please share the details about the collection "SelectedClasses"?

If you only want that formula work, you could replace it with below:

WorkLocation: WorkLocation,

Training_x0020_Module: ClassChoices

If you have any further questions, please feel free to let us know. If I did not answer your question, please share more about your scenario, the collection and the interface would be better.

the SelectedClasses collection

as mentioned earlier.... i have a form with a gallery (checkbox).  I created the collection because this is a class request form.  I added the gallery so that the user can select more than one checkbox.  I added a button called "Add Member" so that they can add more as the form, clears itself so that new info can be added.  The collection is all the fields on the form including the gallery checkbox so that i can submit multiple rows to the SP list.  the issue is with those two fields in the collection (WorkLocation, Training Module) throwing those errors.  And its driving me nuts!!!!  I can run test and see that the info is being collected to the collection.  I added the above code to the Submit button and thats where the error is so i cant submit the results.

also i tried your solution initially and it will not work.

anybody have any ideas here?  im at wits end trying to get this to work.

Hi @cnorris135 ,

The error is saying the two columns of the collection are with different types as in SP list. So the point is how did your create that SelectedClasses collection? I need to know the formula of it and what thing is in the WorkLocation and TrainingModule Data Cards Value.

As per the error prompt,  WorkLocation is choice type in SP list so it is a Combo Box value in the Form. Since it expect a Table type to submit the column is set to allow multiple selection. What about TrainingModule column? Which column type is it, LookUp or Choices? I noticed that most columns in the collection have different names from SP list, that's why I have no idea about the details about the collection.

If possible, please share screenshots of the interface, column types of those two columns in SP list, "Add Member" button's OnSelect, Items of the checkbox Gallery, formula of creating SelectedClasses collection and Items of WorkLocation DataCardValue which suppose to be a Combobox.

Otherwise, you mentioned that you would like to "submit multiple rows to the SP list", do you mean submit a record with multi-line class choices in the field OR each class choice with other fields in the form to be a record in SP list?

Hi sir and thank you for responding...

1.) Work Location - yes in SP, it is a choice field that is selected as a checkbox (allow multiple selections.  It has 3 set items in the choice field.

image001 (2).jpg
2.) Training Module - it is a Lookup field that looks up values in a SP list also called Training Modules on a column called Classes v2.

image002.jpg
3.) My collection is set on the "OnCheck" of the gallery checkbox. Text property of the checkbox is set to "Thisitem.'Classes v2'.  If i preview the form, and input data as expected, then check the collection, it does create multiple rows in the collection as expected.  (it works)...... My collection code is this:

Collect(

    SelectedClasses,

    {

        ProjectCoordinator: DataCardValue1.Text,

        PCWorkPhone: PCWorkPhone_DataCardValue.Text,

        PCCostCenter: PCCostCenterName_DataCardValue.Text,

        ClassChoices: ThisItem.'Classes v2',

        ContractorCompany: ContractorCompanyName_DataCardValue.SelectedText.Value,

        CompanyType: ContractorType_DataCardValue.Selected.Value,

        RequestDate: OrientationRequestDate_DataCardValue.SelectedDate,

        EstimatedContractorCount: EstimatedContractorsCount_DataCardValue.Text,

        FirstName: DataCardValue2.Text,

        LastName: DataCardValue3.Text,

        BriefDescription: Comments_DataCardValue.Text,

        WorkLocation: WorkLocation_DataCardValue.Selected.Value

    }

)
image001 (3).jpg

4.) Add New (On Select) - here is the code for adding a new person or (multiple rows of data to the collection, thus adding multiple rows to SP per form.  It simply clears to that you can add to the next record.

UpdateContext({ResetClassGallery: true}); UpdateContext({ResetClassGallery: false});

UpdateContext({ClassRosterGallery: true}); UpdateContext({ClassRosterGallery: true})

5.) Submit (On Select)  here is the code that has the issues with Work Location and Training Module.

ForAll(

    SelectedClasses,

    Patch(

        'Orientation Requests',

        Defaults('Orientation Requests'),

        {

            ProjectCoordinator_x0028_PC_x002: ProjectCoordinator,

            PCWorkPhone: PCWorkPhone,

            PCCostCenterName: PCCostCenter,

            ContractorCompanyName: ContractorCompany,

            OrientationRequestDate: RequestDate,

            Contractor_x0020_Type: {Value:CompanyType},

            EstimatedContractorsCount: Value(EstimatedContractorCount),

            ContractorName: Concatenate(FirstName," ",LastName),

            Comments: BriefDescription,

            WorkLocation: WorkLocation

            Training_x0020_Module: Value(ClassChoices)

        }

))

6.) Form Interface -

image001 (1).jpg

 thank you and i hope i added all the info you requested.  Please let me know what im doing wrong.

Hi @cnorris135 ,

For the "WorkLocation" column value, please check if the combo box has toggled on the "Allow multiple selection" setup, since it is allowing in the list. After turning on the toggle, this field would not prompt error while submitting.

For the "Training_x0020_Module", it is a LookUp column which looks up to "Training Modules" list Classes v2 column, this means when you submitting the form, you are looking up to this Training Modules list to find the same records in your collection.

Combining the above two, you will need to:

1\ Set the WorkLocation Combo Box to Allow multiple selection.

2\ Modify the formula to:

ForAll(
    SelectedClasses,
    Patch(
        'Orientation Requests',
        Defaults('Orientation Requests'),
        {
            ProjectCoordinator_x0028_PC_x002: ProjectCoordinator,
            PCWorkPhone: PCWorkPhone,
            PCCostCenterName: PCCostCenter,
            ContractorCompanyName: ContractorCompany,
            OrientationRequestDate: RequestDate,
            Contractor_x0020_Type: {Value:CompanyType},
            EstimatedContractorsCount: Value(EstimatedContractorCount),
            ContractorName: Concatenate(FirstName," ",LastName),
            Comments: BriefDescription,
            WorkLocation: WorkLocation
            Training_x0020_Module: LookUp([@'Training_x0020_Module'],'Classes V2'= ThisRecord.'Classes V2')
        }
))

Please have a try and if have any further questions, please feel free to let us know.

Hope this helps.
