The message you are focusing on ("This formula uses scope...") is a normal message in any formula in a Gallery that references "ThisItem".   That is not your issue!

I would focus on the fact that you are trying to create a record in the Books entity that has several required fields that you are not supplying.  Normally the error will tell you something along those lines...if you happen to hover over the formula in error.

Check into that and see if you resolve your issue.

I hope this is helpful for you.

It's not very clear, but the "This formula uses scope, which is not presently supported for evaluation." is an unrelated message pertaining to the Result View feature, which is supposed to show an evaluation of your expression.  If you have a Patch invocation like you do, or any expression which uses ThisItem, Result View won't be able to resolve its value since it depends on the scope of the collection you are trying to Patch.  This is the expected message.  Your real error message should appear when you hover over the redline.  If you post that I should be able to help you some more.

Hi @RandyHayes  @PushupDoer99

Thanks for your time.

  • When run the Power Apps  and click on + icon, I get the error.

    06 Error on Plus.png

  • OnSelect, Patch I get error.

    07 Patch.png

  • The Patch code
    Patch(
    Books,
    Defaults(Books),
    {
    title: ThisItem.volumeInfo.title,
    description: ThisItem.volumeInfo.description,
    author: First(ThisItem.volumeInfo.authors).Value,
    isbn: _CurrentISBN
    }
    )

@PushupDoer99 @RandyHayes  ..

  • I make Books entity optional in CDS.

    09 Optional.png

  • and now my fields from CDS at Patch function are throwing
    Value must be between 0 and 100.

    08 Value must be between 0 and 100.png
    Got stuck again.

  • Any advice please?

Hi @PushupDoer99  @RandyHayes  ..

  • I was able to resolve the using this thread.

  • Had to use Left function inside the Patch

    Patch(
    Books,
    Defaults(Books),
    {
    isbn: _CurrentISBN,
    title: Left(
    ThisItem.volumeInfo.title,
    100
    ),
    description: Left(
    ThisItem.volumeInfo.description,
    100
    ),
    cover: Left(
    ThisItem.volumeInfo.imageLinks.thumbnail,
    100
    ),
    authors: First(ThisItem.volumeInfo.authors).Value
    }
    )

  • Attached fully functional Power Apps file. (.msapp)

Seems like there could be a constraint on your data source that limits the number of characters / varchars to 100.  You are probably able to change this value if the 100 character limit is not suitable.  The Left function, if you weren't aware, simply returns the first x characters of the first argument, where x, in your case, is 100.

Hi @PushupDoer99

Yes. My CDS data source  has limits for default Text field which are max to 100.

The Left function solved my issue.
